Not My Stuntman

Summary:

When Ryland Grace agrees to visit his twin brother Colt Seavers on set, he expects the usual.

What he does not expect is Tom Ryder.

Tom is loud, charming, confident, and exactly the kind of Hollywood dude-bro that Colt thinks Ryland should probably avoid. But Tom’s attention keeps drifting back to Ryland, and Ryland finds himself drawn into the strange, messy world of movie sets as Jody's new movie aligns with most of Ryland’s passions.

Colt may not like Tom Ryder.

Ryland is not sure he agrees.

OR

Tom Ryder can hardly hold back his fat man crush and Ryland is figuring out how to have a celebrity crush.
Also Colt is mean and hateful

Notes:

Hi!! This is my first time writing for this ship, let alone writing and posting on Ao3 so please be nice lol

I’ve been thinking about this idea way too much and finally decided to write it down. This is mostly just for fun, so expect a few spelling mistakes or plot holes 😭

I hope you enjoy!

Chapter 1: Late Flight

Chapter Text

Beep. Beep. Beep. The constant alarm coming from the other side of the hotel room was loud and annoying.

Ryland Grace shoved his face deeper into the pillow and tried to ignore it. He hoped it would go to snooze or Colt would finally get up to turn it off.

The alarm kept screaming from somewhere near the window, god this is not what Ryland expected when his brother offered that he come along to the new movie he was shooting over the summer as a ‘brotherly bonding trip’.

Ryland cracked one eye open, squinting at the thin gray light slipping through the curtains. Looks like the storm had settled enough from last night. They were supposed to take a fight last night but it was unfortunately postponed by the weather.

Ryland groaned.

“Colt,” he mumbled into the pillow.

No answer.

Ryland lifted his head just enough to glare across the room. Colt was sprawled across the other bed... One arm hung off the mattress. One leg was tangled in the blanket. His face was buried sideways into a pillow.

He was still sleeping. Of course he was.

Ryland sat up, hair sticking up in every possible direction…He grabbed the nearest thing on the nightstand, a complimentary hotel notepad, and threw it at him. Colt, now disturbed enough to wake up, opened an eye glaring at Ryland.

“Jesus Ry, what's your problem?” Colt grumbled, blinking away the sleep.

“Your alarm,” Ryland snapped. “It’s been going off for ten minutes.”

“Yeah, I'm getting it.” Colt blindly reached toward the nightstand, patted around for his phone, missed it once, then finally grabbed it. He squinted at the screen, his thumb dragging across it to silence the alarm.

For half a second, Colt just stared at the phone.“Hey uh.”

Ryland narrowed his eyes, something already telling him what had happened. “What?”

Colt sat up so fast the blanket slid halfway off the bed. “We gotta go.” He said picking up yesterday's jeans starting to put them on in a fumble.

Ryland blinked. “What do you mean, we gotta go?”

“Our flight boards in forty minutes.”

Ryland let out a sigh. Then, very slowly, he turned his head toward Colt. “Colt.”

“I know.”

“Colt.”

“I know.”

“You set one alarm?”

“I didn’t think I’d need a backup!”

“I told you not to take my phone charger! We could of avoided this if you just-

Colt was already shoving clothes into his duffelbag. “Not the time, Ry.”

“Oh, now we care about time?” Ryland snapped, throwing the covers off as he started to change. After getting a shirt on Ryland shoved his glasses onto his face and started gathering his bags. Only to notice Colts luggage just about everywhere in the hotel..

“You told me you packed last night.” Ryland demanded.

Colt paused. “Define packed.”

Ryland inhaled sharply. “I am going to kill you in an airport.”

“Can you kill me after security?”

☆°•`☆°•`☆°•`☆°•`☆°•`☆°•`☆°•`☆°•`

By the time they made it to set, Ryland had decided three things.

One: airports were designed specifically to punish people who were already stressed.

Two: Colt Seavers was physically incapable of moving through any public space without somehow knowing at least one person there.

Three: if Colt said “but we made it” one more time, Ryland was going to lose his mind.

The set was already loud when they arrived. Trucks lined the edge of the lot, cables snaked across the ground, and people with headsets moved around in a hassle

Ryland stepped out of the car and immediately had to shield his eyes from the sun.

Colt slung his duffel bag over one shoulder a“See?” he said. “Plenty of time.”

Ryland slowly turned to look at him.

Colt’s grin faded a little. “Ok we had some time.”

Before Ryland could answer, a woman with a clipboard hurried past them, stopped, then doubled back the second she saw Colt.

Her expression shifted from focused to something of annoyance. “Seavers,” Jody said, lowering the clipboard. “You’re late.”

Colt smiled “Good morning to you too.”

Jody stared at him

Ryland, still standing beside him with his bag over one shoulder, said, “He slept through his alarm.”

Colt turned “Dude‐ Stop trying to get me in trouble”

Jody looked between them, her brows lifting slightly as she took in Ryland’s face, then Colt’s, then Ryland’s again. “I'm guessing you're Ryland? Colts talks a lot about you.” She said with a slight smile.

Colt brightened a little and stepped closer to Ryland, throwing an arm around his shoulders before Ryland could dodge him.

“Right, yeah. Jody, this is my twin brother, science teacher, and megabiologists ”

Ryland shoved at Colt’s arm but didn’t quite get him off. “molecular biologist.” He corrected

Jody gave Ryland a sympathetic smile and held out her hand. “Nice to finally meet you.”

Ryland shifted his cold airport coffee to his other hand and shook hers. “Nice to meet you too. Sorry you’re dating my brother.”

Colt made an offended noise. “Okay.”

Jody laughed, glancing at Colt. “I appreciate the apology.”

“Wow,” Colt said. “Both of you?”

Jody tucked the clipboard against her chest and looked Colt over, taking in the wrinkled shirt, messy hair, and sunglasses that did not hide how tired he was. “Are you okay? You text me something about a plane?”

Colt’s expression softened. “Yeah. We made the flight.”

“Barely,” Ryland added.

Jody let out a huff “I think you need to get to the stunt meeting before Tom starts looking for you himself.”

Colt’s smile faded just a little. “Ryder’s here already?”

“He’s been here for an hour.”

Ryland looked at Colt. “Imagine that. An adult arriving on time.”

☆°•`☆°•`☆°•`☆°•`☆°•`☆°•`☆°•`☆°•`

Ryland followed Colt and Jody through the chaos, stepping carefully over cables and moving through crowded tents… “So what's with this Tom Guy?” Ryland said ducking underneath a microphone stand as they rounded the corner of a half-built set piece, Before Colt could explain, a voice called from somewhere behind them.

Yo, Seavers!”

Ryland turned first.

A man was walking toward them from the stunt rig with sunglasses pushed up into his curly hair and a protein shake in one hand. All of his movies his students made him watch with their ‘lava points’ came back to Ryland when he saw him…That Tom right‐ Movie Star Tom

Tom clapped his hands once as he approached looking at Ryland, falling to notice Jody and Colt watching from the sidelines. “There he is. Sleeping Beauty finally made it.”

Tom’s gaze raked over Ryland…His crooked glasses, his cardigan and wrinkled button up shirt. “Rough morning, huh? You look like hell, buddy.” He said slightly confused by his outfit..."What scene is this for?"

Ryland blinked. “I’m sorry?”

Colt stepped forward, practically making Tom jump out of his skin. “That’s not me.”

Tom glanced at Colt.

Then back at Ryland.

Then at Colt again.

“What the hell?” Tom exclaimed looking between the two like he was trying to figure out why Colt had seemed to duplicate. “You're not my Stuntman” Tom said looking over Ryland with quizzical expression, his hand coming up to rest on his chin..

Jody pressed her lips together like she was trying hard not to laugh.

Colt crossed his arms with a huff. “Ryder, this is Ryland. My brother.”

Tom let out a shocked noise, staring between them. “You have a twin?”

“No, Ryder, I just move really fast.” Colt said bluntly.

Tom recovered quickly, his grin sliding right back into place. He held a hand out to Ryland a smirk on his face. “Tom Ryder. Actor, legend, and current number 1 superstar.”

Ryland looked at his hand for a second before shaking it. “Ryland Grace…Science teacher…i guess.”

Tom laughed loudly, like Ryland had just said the funniest thing in the world. “Science teacher? No kidding. So you’re the smart one.”

Colt’s face went flat. “Ryder..”

Tom lifted both hands. “Hey, compliment.”

Ryland looked at Jody. “Are they always like this?” Jody sighed. “Unfortunately.”

Tom pointed between the twins, still clearly entertained. “This is wild. Nobody told me there were two Seavers.”

“Because there aren’t,” Colt said. “There’s one Seavers and one Grace.”

Tom tilted his head at Ryland. “Grace, huh? You two don’t share a last name?”

Ryland gave him a polite smile. “We share enough.” Like my fliping phone charger. Ryland afterthought, still bitter about before…

Colt snorted.

Tom looked Ryland over again, maybe for a little too long this time. Or at least too long for Colts liking.

Colt stepped slightly in front of Ryland, not quite blocking him, but close enough to be obvious. "Aren't you waiting for me so we can go to the stunt meeting for the next scene?”

Tom grin faltered for a second as his attention was taken away from Ryland "Uh-" but very quickly returned as he slapped Colt on the back “Yea bro! Everyone is waiting on you!”

Jody’s eyes flicked between them, catching the tension immediately as Colt let out a huff. “Alright,” she said, clapping her clipboard lightly against her palm. “Stunt meeting. Now. Colt, Tom, go. Ryland, you can come with me before these two start measuring egos in front of the entire crew.”

Colt still looked annoyed, but he gave him a quick nod to Jody before looking back at Ryland. “You good to go without me?”

Ryland raised an eyebrow, rolling his eyes. “Im a grown man, yes I can handle myself”

Tom smirked, shooting a wink back at Ryland. “Heyyy, That’s the spirit babe.”

Colt looked at Tom with a look of disgust at the nickname. “Let's go Ryder.” Tom laughed and started toward the rig. Colt followed, but not before glancing back once at Ryland just to make sure he'd be ok…

Jody leaned slightly toward Ryland once Colt and Tom were out of earshot. “For the record, your brother doesn't act like that most of the time..”

“What, annoying?” Ryland Asked

“Protective.” She corrected

Ryland watched Colt disappear into the crowd of crew members and equipment. He huffed slightly, but his expression softened a little. “Yeah well he’s always been bad at making those two look different.”
