Fated Freaks

Summary:

Mumei knows she's a freak, but Kronii doesn't see it that way in the slightest.

Chapter Text

She feels like a complete and utter idiot. Why in the hell did she let her pack members agree to set her up on a blind date? This has to be the sixth—no, at least the seventh date she has been on in the past three months her friends have set her up on.

Mumei knows it because her pack feels bad; she is the only one who hasn’t found a mate yet. Not that she is actively looking either. She learned long ago that no one is going to want to be with a freak like herself.

She is not a beta, an alpha, or even an omega. But she is a genetic freak that most people couldn’t accept.

Mumei was unfortunately born with Omega Alpha Syndrome, or OAS, for short. So basically she had both omega and alpha chromosomes.

Her body build was more similar to that of an omega, but her friends told her she had a more alpha-like personality. Mumei pheromones had a confusing scent to them. She was told they smelled sweet like an omega but had a musky undertone to them similar to that of an alpha.

She figured dating exclusively betas would be the best option, but it turns out even betas were repulsed by her. People really don’t like it when others don't fit nicely into their perfect little boxes of what everyone should be.

Mumei was too much of an alpha for her alpha peer, and the same went for the omega ones. She was apparently way too confusing of a specimen for even betas to want to deal with.

So here she sits in some random restaurant waiting for her date to show up. Even though they were about twenty minutes late. Mumei had definitely been stood up by her date. Heck, even the staff were starting to give her apologetic looks.

Also, the adhesive on the scent patches she wore on her scent glands was starting to give her a rash. Fuck, the only reason she wore them was to not have everyone around her give her weird looks and ask her annoying questions as well. That was definitely the last time she brought this brand. So she figured she should probably just go home.

She let out a long, tired sigh as she was about to stand up when a much taller woman walked towards her table. She was definitely an alpha; her pheromones had sent gasoline mixed with bourbon to it. The scent was a bit too overpowering for Mumei’s taste.

“Nanashi Mumei?” The woman with a bob of navy blue hair asks with a sheepish grin.

"Who's asking…” the brunette deadpans.

“Ouro Kronii…” she chuckles nervously before taking a seat across from Mumei. “Sorry for keeping you waiting; my meeting at work went a lot longer than expected.”

“I see…” Mumei says plainly. She had no interest in keeping this conversation going. Truthfully, she just wants to go home. She knew even if she were interested in the person in front of her, she was just going to get her heart broken anyway.

“Hope you weren’t waiting too long,” Kronii chuckles nervously while scratching the back of her neck.

“Twenty minutes…” Mumei tells her coldly. This was all just a waste of time.

“Ah, sorry again…” Kronii tells her before clearing her throat. Before changing the subject. “So what do you do for work?”

“Vet technician,” Mumei sighs while looking the alpha up and down. Kronii was quite attractive, to be honest. That didn’t mean she was going to let her guard down. But she’ll play along for now. “You?”

“I work for the time corporation as a regional manager,” Kronii informs her.

“You must be very busy…” Mumei says with an uninterested tone.

“It can be… so what is it like being a vet?” Kronii asks with a smile. Mumei could tell it was a forced one. They always are.

“Vet technician…” Mumei corrects her. “It’s interesting, I guess.”

“How so?” The taller alpha inquires. With the stupid smile still on her face.

“Get to see different animals,” Mumei says with a slight shrug.

However, before Kronii could ask her any more questions, their waiter arrives at their table.

“I see your date has finally arrived, miss,” the older gentleman hums. “Would you like me to refill your ice tea?” He asks Mumei before looking over at Kronii. “And you, ma’am?”

“Yes please,” Mumei tells the waiter with a smile.

“Ah, lemonade, please,” Kronii tells the waiter while looking down at the menu. It was pretty clear she was trying to avoid eye contact with the older male.

“Splendid,” the older gentleman said as he picked up Mumei’s empty cup. “I’ll be back with your drink shortly.” He gives a polite smile before walking off.

“So, you like tea?” Kronii says with an awkward laugh.

“No… not at all,” Mumei told her bluntly. “It tastes horrible.”

"Oh, then why did you get it?” The alpha had a confused look on her face that Mumei had to admit was kind of cute.

“I was bored… waiting,” Mumei tells her, making sure to keep direct eye contact with the Kronii.

“Oh… I-I see.” The taller woman's eyes look down back towards the menu. “Have you figured out what you want to order yet?”

“Load a baked potato…” Mumei lies, wondering if the alpha will catch on to it or not that she was messing with her.

“Ah, I don’t see that on the menu,” Kronii tells her, the woman's voice laced with confusion.

“I know…” Mumei answers back.

“Then why would you order it?” Kronii asks in bewilderment.

“I’m not,” Mumei says with an innocent smile.

“But you just told me you’re going to order the baked potato,” Kronii says with a loud and confused gwak.

“Why would I order something that’s not on the menu?” She asks the alpha with a raised eyebrow.

“I-I ah… y-you just,” Kronii was starting to slur her words with how confused she was. She takes a deep breath while running her hand through her short navy hair. The alpha was clearly trying to collect herself. Yet before she could say anything, the waiter came back with their drinks.

“Are you two ready to order?” The waiter asks them.

“Yes, I'll get the chicken parm,” Mumei tells the waite

“Excellent choice, miss,” he tells Mumei with a smile before the waiter looks over at Kronii. “And you, ma’am?”

“I’ll have the steak, medium rare,” Kronii tells him.

“I see, your food shall be with you momentarily,” the waiter tells them before heading off towards the kitchen.

“So… have any hobbies?” The alpha asks once the waiter is out of sight.

“No,” Mumei tells the alpha with a blank stare.

“None at all?” The alpha asks again. “Not one singular hobby?”

“Nope,” Mumei says, making sure to pop the p.

The two of them just sat there in awkward silence for the rest of the night. Kronii ended up paying the bill after they finished their respective meals, and then the two went their separate ways.

Mumei was lying on her bed when her pack member Bae, an omega, barged into her room. It was pretty common for pack members to live under the same roof. So she was used to lack of privacy.

“So how was your date?" Bae asks while jumping into Mumei’s bed and quickly making herself comfortable.

“Meh,” Mumei says with a shrug. “Probably won’t be second”

“What, did you not like Irys ' friend?” Bae asks with a sad look. Irys  was an alpha, another pack member, and Bae’s mate. “She was sure you two would get along”

“We just didn’t click,” Mumei tells her friend, not wanting to talk about it any further, so she decided to talk about something else. “So how has your internship been going?”

“Hey, no changing the subject. I want to know what happened,” the omega pouts. “I want details.”

“Fine,” Mumei groans out. “I waited about twenty minutes for her to arrive, then we ate, she paid, and that was it.”

“That's all?” Bae asks? “It was that bad of a date?”

“Yup…” is all Mumei says to her friend.

“Ugh, what are we going to do with you?” Bae groans out in defeat.

“You guys can’t stop setting up dates for me with random people,” Mumei says with a huff. “I’ve already accepted that I won't ever find a mate. Why can’t my own pack?”

“Because we want to see you happy and in loving relationships,” Bae tells Mumei while taking her hand into her own.

“I’m fine and plenty happy just being by myself,” Mumei retorts back, taking her head away from the omega. “So there really isn’t any reason y’all need to keep setting me up on dates.”

“Fine,” Bae said with a disappointed look in her eyes. “I’ll let the rest of the pack know to let up a bit.”

“Thanks…” Mumei mumbles under breath as she watches her friend exit her room.

The brunette face-plants into her pillow and lets out a muffled scream. She didn’t know whether to cry or punch a wall. All she did know was she was exhausted. So she just went to sleep, not even bothering to get into some pajamas.
