Why do I cry?

Summary:

If satisfaction depended on how I saw myself, I would be bruised and sore. I am that satisfied with myself.

Laverne shut her diary and sighed. Tomorrow is going to be a rollercoaster of feelings. As long as there is enough daylight, everything should be fine.

Maybe it would have been better if Mom and Dad had never had Laverne.

Or; the story of a girl whose worst nightmares are the scales, her parents, and her mind. The red lines are growing day by day on a body that only a madman could love. At least that's what Laverne believes.

Work Text:

If satisfaction depended on how I saw myself, I would be bruised and sore. I am that satisfied with myself.

Laverne shut her diary and sighed. Tomorrow is going to be a rollercoaster of feelings. As long as there is enough daylight, everything should be fine. There is enough light and smiles for everyone, chat sessions reach throughout the house, and someone fries sausage in a pan. When the curtains finally closed, starts a different kind of life.

Laverne puts her headphones on her head and tries to not think about what happens next. Mom swears in the next room about her job and from stress about all the unpaid bills, which are beginning to pile on the kitchen cabinet. Dad tries to calm down her, thinking at the same time, how he's going to buy the groceries tomorrow. It's illegal to drive while being drunk.

Laverne is sure, that her little sister haven't caught any sleep yet. She's sure that the little sister is listening to their parents argues afraid. Still, Laverna was afraid to check how Eeva was, because she couldn't see Eeva's bed from her room's door. Surely she didn't write a message to the other.

Maybe it would have been better, if Mom and Dad haven't ever gotten Laverne. They would have had just Eeva to care for, the little girl, who did all kind of amazing tricks and succeeded at everything at her first try. The little girl whose body was like silk and voice bright like the spring's first bird's. The girl's body was as thin as a newborn foal's. Eeva was everything Laverne had admired and envied.

From outside the room came footsteps. Knock, knock, knock. The knocks were quiet and hesitant. Laverne immeadiately eraised Mom and Dad from her mind; they would just walk right in.

"Eeva, just come in," Laverne whispered and waited, until she got up from the bed and opened the door herself, when Eeva didn't open it. Just as she had expected, Eeva stood in front of her with a teddy bear in her hands.

"Vera, I didn't want to be alone," Eeva said in a quiet voice. Both of them were upset that they couldn't tell their parents about things at home, but had to secretly comfort them behind their backs by the light of a small table lamp, tears rolling down their cheeks.

The little teddy bear lay forgotten on the bed as the sisters wiped away each other's tears.
