Chapter Text
Captain’s Log 237. Galaxy date – 68.4.44635. Galaxy time – 23:584.
We have just left the High Port of Creneb on the extensive city planet that is Neleshk, in the galaxy of Na’trlo Brut Julth. We have been given orders from the High Command to pick up the replacement for our combat crew member who has been returned to dust and ashes, may their spirit fly in the winds freely. I have been told it is a Terran, otherwise known as Human. Very little is known about them, and I admit my ignorance and lack of knowledge about Terrans. I downloaded and skimmed the booklet ‘Human Handbook”. When I have more time, I will read through it carefully, to understand what the new crew member may need and what challenges they, the crew, and I will face with them onboard my ship.
They seem to be a contradictory and diverse species, not alike my own people. I have heard rumours that these Terrans used to fight and kill amongst themselves, to prove who was strongest. To take supplies and hoard wealth. I do not put my strength behind these rumours, no doubt exaggerated at every turn. But if there may be some truth in this rumour, I can only hope our new crew member will not fight the rest of the crew to display dominance. Perhaps I should speak with them beforehand, to explain that fighting to the death is not allowed on this ship or even in the Space Federation. Though they would not have passed and graduated the training if this Terran fought as said in the rumours. But perhaps I can remind them that on my ship, fighting with protective gear is allowed for keeping ourselves healthy, and for the combat crew, it keeps their skills sharp and focused. It seems strange to me that a diverse species such as the Terrans, with their once rich resource planet, would fight and kill. Perhaps they did not see the beauty in it. In variations and their differences. My crew is mixed, with many assortments of beings from across the galaxy. Will the Terran fight with the crew and prove this rumour true? Or will they work harmoniously and become one with us? Only time will tell.
I have also heard rumours that some of the Terrans are extremely adapted to work in freezing cold temperatures. While others are adapted to high temperatures. I wonder where our new crew member will fit it. Are they adapted for the cold or the heat? Will my ship be adequate and suitable for their needs? I presume that as they have been selected for my ship, the temperatures onboard are similar to our new crew member’s optimum temperature.
I also presume the air circulating round the ship are also suitable for the Terran. I can only thank the galaxies that ship crews are based on temperature and air needs, as well as crew dynamics. I remember reading books of our ancient past where crews had to wear specialised breathing apparatus or clothing, just to be on the same ship together. I can only shiver at the thought. But back then, we were young and unexperienced in space flight between different beings. We each had our own ships, suited to each of our own needs. It was a simpler time. But I, for one, am glad of our advances in technology and space flight. Allowing different beings on the same ships. Flying together. Exploring space and its planets and moons. Now we can add Terrans to our list. I look forward to it.
End of Captain’s log.
