The Flowers gathered in the café, hanging out around a table and chatting; except Green, who was cooking and occasionally placing signs. Green flipped their pan eight times in quick succession, every flip launching an entire meal for each flower from it – two green eggs and a whole green ham. The Flowers all cheered and thanked Green before digging in, with the exception of Pink, who now remembered that her body couldn’t actually eat, and Seth, who had their own objection.
“My research has taught me that humans have foods they don’t like and won’t eat,” they said. “As such, I have decided that as a human I do not like green eggs and ham.”
“Do not like green eggs and ham?” Aqua asked. “That can’t be right, you love all of Green’s food! What about if you were over here, or how about over there?”
“No, Aqua, the location doesn’t matter. I do not like them here or there.”
Orange leapt to her feet, screen doors flying in from out of the dark to change the shape of the café. “What about in a house? Would you like them with a— me?”
“No,” Seth replied, shaking their head. “I do not like them in a house, I do not like them with a— you. I do not like them here or there, I do not like them anywhere.”
Blue took centre stage next, jumping away so he could slide dramatically in, posing and snapping his fingers. The walls Orange had built shrunk in, leaving barely enough room for the Flowers. A spotlight snapped on from somewhere above, illuminating a Netskie that may or may not have been there before.
“Would you eat them in a box? Would you eat them with a fox?”
Seth sighed, shaking their head. “Not in a box, not with a fox. Not in a house, not with Orange. I would not eat them here or there, I would not eat them anywhere. I do not like them, Seth-I-am.”
The café vanished around them, replaced with asphalt road and open sky. The Flowers were crammed into a car, all in the back barring Seth and Flowery who were in the passenger and driver seats. Wind streamed through the open window to blow Flowery’s hair dramatically as he spoke. “Would you, could you, in a car?”
Aqua leaned over the headrest, shouting, “Eat them! Eat them!”
A green-inked sign attached to a plate read: “Here they are.”
The car veered wildly as Aqua grabbed the wheel. “You’ll still like them, you will see. You’ll still like them, in a tree!” The exploding car dumped the Flowers into a tree, hanging each of them from a branch tangled in vines as Aqua laughed and Seth protested.
“I would not, could not, in a tree. Not in a car, you let me be. Not in a box, not with a fox. Not in a house, not with Orange. I do not like them here or there, I do not like them anywhere. I do not like green eggs and ham, Seth-I-am.”
The loud whistle of a steam train cleared the tree from existence, leaving the Flowers bound to the tracks. “A train! A train!” Yellow shouted. “Could you, would you, on a train?”
“Not on a train! Not in a tree! Not in a car! Let me be! I would not, could not, in a box. I could not, would not, with a fox. I will not eat them with Orange. I will not eat them in a house. I will not eat them here or there. I will not eat them anywhere. I do not like them, Seth-I-am.”
The approaching light of the train shut off as suddenly as it had first appeared, plunging them all into darkness. “Say!” said Pink. “In the dark? Here in the dark! Would you, could you, in the dark?”
“I would not, could not, in the dark.”
Large, heavy curtains pulled back, illuminating the stage that Seth and Pink stood upon with spotlights. Pink pointed across the stage, illuminating Blue as he summoned a dark cloud that began to pour. “Would you, could you, in the rain?” he asked.
“I would not, could not, in the rain. Not in the dark. Not on a train, Not in a car, Not in a tree. I do not like them, you see. Not in a house. Not in a box. Not with Orange. Not with a fox. I will not eat them here or there. I do not like them anywhere!”
Green held up a sign. “You do not like green eggs and ham?”
“I do not like them, Seth-I-am.”
Flowery reached into a bouquet of flowers, pulling out the top of a pointed green hat. “Could you, would you, with a goat?”
“I would not, could not, with a goat.”
A shift from Pink put them out to sea. “Would you, could you, on a boat?”
“I could not, would not, on a boat. I will not, will not, with a goat. I will not eat them in the rain. I will not eat them on a train. Not in the dark! Not in a tree! Not in a car! You let me be! I do not like them in a box. I do not like them with a fox. I will not eat them in a house. I do not like them with Orange. I do not like them here or there. I do not like them ANYWHERE!” Seth stomped their foot. “I do not like green eggs and ham! I do not like them, Seth-I-am.”
Aqua jumped atop their head, spinning and cycling between the other Flowers’ scenes. “You do not like them. SO you say. Try them! Try them! And you may. Try them and you may I say.”
“Fine! If you will let me be, I will try them. You will see.”
Green presented the green eggs and ham, still perfectly placed on their plate even as the world revolved around them. Seth took their fork and had a bite. They found themself unable to control their face, to prevent their delight being shown and commit to their dislike. “Say! I like green eggs and ham! I do!! I like them, Seth-I-am! And I would eat them in a boat! And I would eat them with a goat... And I will eat them in the rain. And in the dark. And on a train. And in a car. And in a tree. They are so good so good you see! So I will eat them in a box. And I will eat them with a fox. And I will eat them in a house. And I will eat them with Orange. And I will eat them here and there. Say! I will eat them ANYWHERE! I do so like green eggs and ham! Thank you! Thank you, Seth-I-am.”
At last, returned safely to the café, the Flowers could enjoy their meal without dealing with each other’s chaotic scenes. They could laugh and chat and share the masterful cooking of Green. They could even share some with the Floradinn that just walked in.
“The Lightners are about to reach the fountain,” the Floradinn said.
The Flowers froze mid-meal, most with utensils halfway to their mouths.
“OH $!$?!”
