“Maybe he’s not gay.”

“He’s definitely gay.”

Jimin groaned into a couch pillow. He’d been trying to hook up with Jungkook for a couple months now to no avail. The had met in their contemporary dance class at the beginning of the semester. Jimin had instantly taken to him. Jungkook was very cute, and had an almost childlike innocence that made Jimin want to protect him.

But then Jimin saw him dance and he realized immediately that he was screwed. Jungkook was merciless, his movement were solid, intense, confidant. He was sexy.

After performing his short routine to the class Jimin’s face was burning. He had to force himself to look at anything but Jungkook for the remainder of the class.

After that he decided that he was going to get into Jungkook’s pants. Jimin was very good at getting what he wanted. Sometimes he acted cute, that usually worked on girls, but also occasionally on guys. Other times he acted sinful, he knew the effectiveness of those half lidded eyes and coy smirks.

But neither of these things have worked on Jungkook.

“How do you know? I’ve tried everything.” Flirty smiles, light touches, bedroom eyes, everything. He’s even used those red pants that hug his ass in all the right ways. Just the day before he had “accidentally” dropped his wallet and he bent over to pick it up and Jungkook who must have gotten a good view seemed unfazed. He even suggested that Jimin be more careful.

He had started off subtle but at this point he was sure he could straight up ask to suck Jungkook’s cock and he boy would be oblivious.

Despite this Jimin was adamant, he refused to give up. Which is why he had convened a meeting with his two best friends; Taehyung and Yoongi hyung. They were sitting across from him, eating the food that he had bribed them with.

“Just because he’s not into you doesn’t mean he’s not gay, you know.” Yoongi said before shoving a particularly large piece of meat into his mouth. “Ouch!”

Taehyung smacked Yoongi shooting him a glare.

Yoongi sighed, “I meant to say, have you tried the red pants.”

Jimin groaned and dropped his head on the table. “That didn’t work hyung.”

“It’s okay Jiminie, you’ve never failed before, you just gotta step up your game.” Taehyung offered.

“You don’t understand. Today we went for bagels after practice and he got some cream cheese on his lip and I—”

“Oh my God,” Yoongi hyung laughed, “don’t tell me you tried to do that one cliché scene straight out of a drama.”

Jimin averted his friend’s stares. Okay maybe it was a very cliché move but he saw his chance and he took it. He let Jungkook know that he had something on his lips. He reached out to brush the cream cheese with his thumb but Jungkook hastily wiped it on the back of his hand and that was that.

“How’d that go,” Taehyung asked trying to stifle his laughter.

“Complete failure.” Jimin admitted.

His best friends burst out in laughter and Jimin glared at them. “Guys this is serious; you’re supposed to be helping me.”

“Seems like a lost cause to me,” Yoongi said.

“Hyung,” Jimin whinnied. He pouted a little because it was his hyung’s weakness.

As expected his hyung caved. “Okay, okay! Don’t look at me like that. Look, Namjoon is having a party at his place tonight. Jungkook will probably be there. We should go and you should dress up like a hoe.”

“Yay! Makeover!” Taehyung yelled, jumping up running to his room to collect his stuff.

An hour later Jimin was standing in the bathroom looking at his reflection in the mirror. Yoongi and Taehyung were peering over his shoulder. He met Yoongi's eyes in the mirror, “How do I look.”

“Like a hoe.”

Jimin glared at him.

“I’m kidding you look great Jimin.”

“Yeah Jimin,” Taehyung added, hugging him from behind, “If you weren’t my best bro, I’d totally fuck you."

“Eww!” Jimin pushed him away. “Get out both of you, I have to pee.” Jimin shooed them out of the bathroom as they cracked up. Some best friends they were.

He turned back to look at himself in the mirror. Taehyung had done his hair, parting it in half revealing his forehead. He’d also applied light BB cream on his face and smudged some eye shadow on his eyes. Jimin didn’t know when Taehyung became an amateur makeup artist but Jimin had to admit that he looked good.

Despite his apparent confidence Jimin could be very self conscious. Especially regarding his body. Sometimes he hated the fat in his cheeks, or the fat on his thighs. Sometimes he wished he was a bit taller or had a deeper voice. But right now, Jimin felt good about himself. His outfit was dark and skin tight. The neckline on his shirt dipping low and exposing his collarbones. He was wearing a black chocker that Taehyung had forced on him. (“Trust me this will get you laid. Who doesn’t love chokers?”)

Jimin took a deep breath before exiting the bathroom. The Mission: seduce Jeon Jungkook.

They left for Namjoon’s house later than expected because apparently Taehyung and Yoongi also needed to get ready. By the time they got there the party was at full swing. Half of the people there already drunk.

There was a boy attempting to twerk on the coffee table. Jimin recognized him as Hoseok from his dance class. The atmosphere was light, everyone was dancing and having fun. Namjoon greeted them at the door, shoving a few beers into their hands before running off to find Seokjin. He was obviously drunk too.

“So where is Jungkook?” Jimin asked, surveying the apartment.

“Dunno, I think I just saw a bottle of vodka though, good luck kid.”

Jimin watched as Yoongi walked off in search of alcohol. He turned to complain to Taehyung but his friend was already at the center of the living room trying to climb onto the coffee table with Hoseok.

He was on his own.

Jimin finally found Jungkook outside in Namjoon’s small balcony. He was talking to Wheein, a girl he knew from his economics class. They were facing away from him leaning against the railing. Jimin would have been jealous if he didn’t know for a fact that she had a huge crush on Taehyung.

Jimin slid the glass door open, “Hey guys!”

“Jimin!” Wheein greeted, “I didn’t know you’d be here, how’d you do on the exam today?”

Jimin shrugged, “I didn’t fail.”

“Good enough,” Wheein laughed, “So did Taehyung come with you by any chance?”

Yup, she definitely had a crush on his best friend. “I think I saw him grinding on the coffee table.”

Jimin laughed at how quickly she excused herself and hurried back inside.

Jimin finally turned to look and Jungkook who hadn’t moved from his position at the railing.

Jungkook was wearing another on of his oversized t-shirt’s that would look ridiculous on anyone else but he pulled off nicely. Jimin teased him about it once and jokingly asked in he had a closet full of plain white t-shirts. Spoiler alert: he does.

“Hey hyung,” he finally said, avoiding eye contact with Jimin. “Uh, you look good.”

Suddenly Jimin remembered his shameless outfit and The Mission. This was his chance.

“You like it?” he said, leaning close to Jungkook. Jimin rested his hand on the railing behind Jungkook and moved closer when Jungkook took a step back. “I just felt like dressing up a little differently today.”

“That’s cool hyung, so how was dance practice today I couldn’t make it.” Jungkook said side stepping out of Jimin’s hold.

As usual Jungkook didn’t recognize his attempts at flirting.

“If was nice, Seokjin hyung was my partner today since you weren’t there.”

Jungkook laughed, “Are you serious? How was that?”

“He’s a better dancer than you, that’s for sure.”

Jungkook gasped, eyes widening comically, “Are you replacing me already?”

Never, Jimin thought. “I’m just kidding he smacked my face and stepped on my feet.”

They both laughed and then stood in comfortable silence smiling at each other.

Jungkook turned to look at the city lights, arms resting on the railing.

The Mission, Jimin reminded himself. He leaned in close to Jungkook and snaked his arms around his waist, effectively back hugging him. Jungkook tensed slightly and Jimin didn’t know what to make of it. Jimin was often touchy and affectionate with everyone and he was used to Jungkook pushing his away playfully. But Jungkook was not pushing him off this time, his back was stiff against Jimin.

Was this progress?

“The stars look nice out tonight, huh?” Jimin asked, brushing his lips lightly against Jungkook’s earlobe.

He could feel Jungkook shiver in his arms but it could have been due to the cold night air.

Jimin hooked his chin on Jungkook’s shoulder.

“Hyung?” Jungkook asked, voice so soft that Jimin wouldn’t have heard it if he wasn’t so close

“What is it Jungkook?” he asked, hopefully.

“I know what you’ve been trying to do, please stop.”

Jimin felt his heart stop, “What do you mean?”

Jungkook looked uncomfortable, “I mean the flirting, hyung.”

Realization hit Jimin and suddenly he felt like the biggest asshole. Not only was Jungkook aware of his intentions, they were also completely unwelcome.

Jimin quickly let go of Jungkook and almost stumbling over his own feet.

Jimin was at a loss as to what he should say. “I’m sorry,” was all he could manage. He tried to swallow past the lump in his throat.

Jimin has been turned down before. Not often but it did happen but it never hurt like this. Jimin looked back up at Jungkook who turned to look at him. He looked apologetic and uncomfortable. He looked like he would rather be anywhere but there with him.

Jimin had been so insensitive, trying to hook up with his close friend, without thinking what that would do to their relationship. He had been certain Jungkook was just clueless but he had known. He had known this whole time but hadn’t said anything.

Jimin felt stupid and embarrassed. Jungkook didn’t want him and he had been practically forcing himself on him.

He probably ruined their relationship. He’d been so caught up in his stupid mission that he ruined the friendship he had with Jungkook.

Jimin realized that the reason the rejection hurt so much was because he liked Jungkook. It was more than just sexual attraction, he enjoyed spending time with him. He loved their bagel breaks after practice. He loved being his dance partner. He loved Jungkook’s smile and laugh. He loved that Jungkook could always make him laugh with his ridiculous antics.

They had something good and Jimin ruined it. He’d been so stupid.

“Hyung please don’t look so upset.” Jungkook pleaded. “I’m sorry.”

Jungkook suddenly looked so small and sad and Jimin felt another wave of guilt. “Why… Why are you apologizing?”

Jungkook fidgeted with his shirt, “I just, I’m sorry. You are really attractive hyung, and anyone would be lucky to--”

“Jungkook, stop.” He really was apologizing for turning him down. This kid was too good for him. He should have realized that sooner. “You don’t have to explain yourself. I shouldn’t have made a move on you like that, without knowing if you were interested. I’m your hyung, I should have been more responsible. I understand if you don’t want to talk anymore.”

Jungkook blinked back at him, quiet for a few moments.

Jimin’s face burned in shame under his stare, regretting his choice of outfit. Jungkook probably thought he looked ridiculous.

Jungkook stepped closer and almost like he predicted Jimin would run, he held onto his wrist. “Jimin hyung, please don’t misunderstand, it’s not that I’m not attracted to you.”

Jimin tried to pull his arm out of Jungkook’s grasp, “Jungkook stop, you don’t have to lie, I can handle rejection.”

“Jimin,” Jungkook said firmly, tightening his hold on his wrist.

Jimin stopped struggling and looked up at him. He looked really serious suddenly and Jimin didn’t know what to feel.

“Jimin, you’re beautiful, so beautiful.”

“Don’t lie,” Jimin’s voice wavered.

“I’m not lying you’re so beautiful.”

Jimin’s voice hitched, “Then why don’t you want me?”

Jungkook was so close, his hand still firmly wrapped around Jimin’s wrist. His stare was intense and Jimin felt warm under it.

“I do want you Jimin hyung. I want you so bad and that’s why I need you to stop.”

“I don’t understand.”

“Hyung, I don’t want to be another one of your hook ups. I want to make love to you. I want it to mean something to you but I know it won’t. And that’s okay, I love being your friend. I want it to stay that way. I didn’t mean to ignore your advances I just didn’t know what to do. I didn’t want to turn you down because I do want you but you don’t want me they way I do. I’m sorry I’m rambling I just want you to know that you’re beautiful and I—”

“Jungkook, stop,” Jimin cut him off, his mind was whirling. “What are you saying, exactly?”

Jungkook met his eyes, they were open and honest, “I like you, hyung. I like you very much.”

Relief flooded through Jimin and a wide smile spread on his face, “Jungkook.”

Jungkook looked at him in confusion.

“I like you too.”

Jungkook’s eyes narrowed in suspicion, “You’re not just saying that because you want to hook up?”

“You know I wouldn’t do that to you.”

After a few seconds Jungkook smiled back at him. His eye crinkled and Jimin’s heart lurched. How hadn’t he realized his feelings sooner? He was such an idiot.

“Can I kiss you now, hyung?”

Jimin laughed, “I’m all yours.”
