Chapter Text
Ok, let’s start at the beginning.
“Dean Winchester.”
A pause, with muffled words on the other side of the phone.
“Yeah, I remember you. How can I help?”
More muffled talking. Sam could see concern on Dean’s face. He started packing as Dean continued to listen.
“Got it, we will head out soon. We should be there in about a day.”
“Who was that?”
Sam was packing up as he asked the question.
“Do you remember Yuna Hollander? It would have been about 20-some years ago. It was one of the first cases when you started hunting again. Dad was with us too. It was a case up in Ottawa, Canada.”
“Yuna? That doesn’t really ring any bells.” Sam had gathered up the last of the stuff and was handing a bag to Dean.
“It was that Japanese Onryo ghost. You know the case where the husband, I think his name was Dave or David, had accidentally brought it back with them.”
“Oh yeah, I remember. His name was David, and he helped me with research on that ghost. Really knew his way around research.”
“Of course, that is what you would remember. You are such a nerd.”
Sam laughed, threw his bag in the back of the car, and loaded himself into the passenger seat.
Once Dean got Baby on the road, he started laying out what was going on and where they were headed.
“So, we are headed back to Ottawa. There have been some missing children in the last few weeks. Apparently, one of them is her grandson.”
“Why would we be called?"
“Well, apparently, your best friend David hasn’t stopped researching, and he found sulfur on the window seal of the bedroom. So, he suggested that Yuna call us.”
“Well, yes, that does sound like it is more of a job for us. How many kids are missing?”
“From what Yuna had said, her grandson is the 8th to have gone missing. Here is the funny part, though. The grandson has a twin sister. They sleep in the same room, and it was just the boy who was taken.”
Sam was already on his phone, looking at the case. From what he was reading, it was both boys and girls who had gone missing. 3 girls and now 5 boys. So that wasn’t a factor in the case.
“From what I am reading on this, both boys and girls have gone missing. So, there is something else that is happening when these children are taken.”
“Ok, well, we have about 600 miles to go. You keep up the research, and I will see if I can get us there in under 10 hours. I have a feeling that whatever is going on, it won’t be stopping soon.”
8 hours later, they pulled up to a house that belonged in a magazine or somewhere in Beverly Hills.
The house was one story, the driveway was cobblestone, and there was a multiple-car garage on one side with the doors open. 6 cars were perfectly parked inside, each one a little bit flashier than the next.
The house itself was stone, with frosted double doors; the glass was nestled into dark wood. Multiple windows surrounding the home, each with privacy screens where you could see out, but people looking in wouldn’t be able to see anything. Who were these people?
A tall, thin woman came rushing out of the house. Her dark hair was pulled up, and when she got closer, you would see the worry lines across her face and the fear in her eyes.
“Thank god you guys are here.” She ran up to Dean as he closed the door and hugged him.
Dean turned to Sam and gave him a look of ‘help me’.
Sam smirked, walked around the car, and gently pulled the woman away.
“Yuna correct?”
“Yes, hello Sam.”
“Let’s go inside, and you can tell us what is going on.” Sam put his arm around her shoulder and led her to the door.
Looking up, he could see three more people at the door. One he recognized as David. The other two looked familiar, but he couldn’t put a name to either face.
When Sam, Yuna, and Dean made it to the door, the other three moved inside, so they could come in.
David relieved Sam of Yuna, and the group walked towards the living room. Inside, the house was clean, but you could tell that it was lived in. Pictures of the family hung on the walls, multiple toys in a corner of the room, and indentations of where people sit on the chairs and couches.
The dark-haired man motioned for everyone to sit down. Sam and Dean placed themselves on the smaller of the two couches, while Yuna and David took themselves to the kitchen, making tea and coffee. The other two sat together across from Sam and Dean.
Sam finally took a good look at the two men in front of him. The dark-haired one was just a bit shorter than the other. He had a smattering of freckles across his nose and cheeks. You could tell he had been crying. His eyes were red and puffy.
The taller one had curly, sandy blonde hair. He was very stoic, and you could tell he was trying to stay strong for the man next to him. You could also see that he had been crying, but his eyes hid the fear better than the others.
“My name is Sam, this is my brother Dean. Yuna called us, thinking we could help you. Can you tell us what is going on?”
“I am Ilya, and this is my husband Shane. Our son,” Ilya took a deep breath and continued. “Our son Max has gone missing. Just disappear.”
Yuna and David came from the kitchen with tea, coffee, cheese, and crackers. Set them on the coffee table and sat next to Shane and Ilya.
“Yuna, when I talked to you on the phone, you said that there were two children in the room. Where is the other child?”
“Irina is with our friends. They don’t live in Ottawa, so we thought it would be safer for her to be there.” Shane was very quiet when he spoke.
“You are probably right about that, though, at some point, we may need to talk to her. She might have seen something.” This time it was Sam who spoke.
“That may be hard. She not speak to anyone, including me, her Papa, and her Dad.” You could hear the fear in Ilya’s voice.
“We would like to try. We can hold off on that. We can do some other things before we need to talk to her. I would like to see the bedroom if you don’t mind.” Sam stood up, Dean following.
David motioned for everyone else to stay, and he took them to the room.
“David Yuna said you found sulfur on the window?” Sam turned to look at him.
“Yes, at first, I thought it was fingerprint dust, but when I went to smell it, there was a definite smell of rotten eggs. I didn’t move it, so you can check it out if you would like.”
Sam walked over to the window and took a look. It was sulfur. They were looking for something that wasn’t human.
Sam and Dean looked around the room, checking every corner, under both beds, and in the closets to see if there was anything else they could find. Coming up empty-handed, the three men headed back to the living room.
“You were right to call us Yuna. Something is definitely up, and we will do our best to get to the bottom of it and try to get the kids home, including Max.”
Dean looked up at the people in front of him, turned to Sam, and nodded. Sam mirrored the movement back.
“Mom? What is going on? Why do you think these guys are going to do more than the cops? Who are these people?”
Shane stared at his mother, his eyes begging for an explanation.
“Oh, honey. These boys helped your dad and me years ago. So, when your dad saw something strange, he knew that the cops wouldn’t be able to do anything but these boys. These boys could, so we called.”
Ilya looked between his in-laws and the men on the other couch. Then, back at his in-laws, you could see the questions in his eyes.
“Explain, please.”
Yuna took a deep breath and began to tell the story.
