Once upon a time…
A beautiful queen with dark brown hair, brown as the bough of a tree, sat near a window. Snow cascaded down of the pale, cloudy sky like luminescent crystals. She smiles gently as she sews a soft blanket for her children, gazing down at her bulging belly, rubbing it with the palm of her hand.
“I want a beautiful child, kind and merry. A child who will break past the chains in life. A child who will look just like their father and mother.”
She chuckles at the words she had spoken to herself and continues to sew. She hears the door of the room crack open and jumps up in surprise, pricking herself with the needle.
“Oh, Rin, forgive me. I did not mean to intrude, please sit back down.” The king strides forward quickly to his wife and pulls out a handkerchief.
With Rin sitting in place, King Sesshomaru bent down to his knee the wipe the crimson trickle of blood sliding down her finger. He pressed his lips against the finger as Rin’s cheeks hued to a delicate pink.
“Your- your Majesty, the kindness you offer me will be cherished greatly…” she wrapped her arms around her husband, cautious of her stomach.
“How many times must I say to call me by my name, Rin?” Sesshomaru’s eyes crinkled slightly in amusement.
He tilted his head back to stare at her with his golden eyes. Their eyes met, gazing at each other fondly as they leaned forward, their lips moving together closer and closer.
One week later...
“YOUR MAJESTY!!!! YOUR FAITHFUL SERVANT JAKEN HAS COME TO ANNOUNCE, QUEEN RIN HAS GIVEN BIRTH TO WONDERFUL-”
“Jaken.”
Jaken immediately paused, only to find that the king had left the room before he could continue speaking.
If he had been honest to himself, he did not sleep a wink when his wife was in labor. The midwife insisted that he must not disturb her. Those hours passing by consisted of him pacing back and forth in his room, full of thoughts.
Will Rin be fine? Will my child or children be fine? What if something disastrous happens? What if I am a horrible father? Much more of these thoughts kept pestering in his mind as he rushed towards the noises he heard, which resembled wailing.
The door slammed open, revealing a tired, but happy Rin beaming with happiness as she held 2 bundles, a lavender one, and light blue one, both containing tiny faces.
Sesshomaru was still slightly panting as his wife spoke to him, her voice hinting a bit of raspiness, “Your daughters, Towa and Setsuna.”
He reached forward to squeeze her hand, “No, our daughters.”
The midwife had already left, leaving them in peace. Sesshomaru ran his finger across both of Towa and Setsuna’s faces.
“The white-haired one is Towa and the other is Setsuna. I hope you like the names I chose!” she smiled.
“Of course.”
Both the twins had a red streak in their hair. Towa had white hair, white as the snow in the winter, while Setsuna inherited her mother’s brown hair. She looked calm, while Towa looked slightly flustered. Sesshomaru was in awe of how his wife had created life: 2 daughters they would both raise together. He continued watching his family as Rin yawned and closed her eyes.
He had a strange feeling something was up, but he didn’t know why.
Just then, Rin started coughing, panting for air. Her face seemed to get more feverish as her coughs continued.
“RIN!” Sesshomaru leaped forward, grabbing the twins before they fell off the bed, their violet and scarlet eyes opening by the sudden movement.
They started wailing and Jaken slammed the door that was once closed, open. He surveyed the chaos and ran to get help right away, his shrieks and cries to help, echoing across the halls.
“Miss Higurashi, Lady Kaede, what us going on with Queen Rin?!!” Jaken paced around the two women who hovered over the bed where Rin laid helpless.
“My, I have never encountered such an illness. It had once seemed like a regular sickness, but after taking some medications, it just seems to be getting worse!” Miss Higurashi exclaimed.
“Mark my words, this may ye be a work of witchcraft!” Lady Kaede stated.
Sesshomaru bellowed, “I don’t need the cause, I need the way to cure this!”
“Please… don’t….be..harsh..on...them…” a low voice murmured, before another fit of coughing began.
“Rin, don’t talk. Please rest.” he pleaded, glancing down at their interlaced hands, while his other arm held their children.
“Hmm.. let ye see if ye can get something to sooth the cough…”
After Kaede spoke, both she and Miss Higurashi left the room, Sesshomaru nodding at them curtly.
“We’ll go through this through Rin. I promise you everything will be alright.” He grasped his wife’s hand tighter.
Meanwhile, a silver-haired woman laughed sinisterly as a servant told her about the dilemma that happened.
“Finally, revenge! Hmp, Inu no Taisho, how would you feel if I shatter your family into pieces?”
