Summary
It took nine months and a tsunami for the 118 family to realise that Eddie's boyfriend and Bobby's adopted son were the same person. There were so many other ways that the secret could have been revealed.
Like, say, Eddie offering to organise a breakfast between his captain and his boyfriend before Buck and Christopher's day out so that Bobby could reassure Buck that he was more than willing to "go up against a grumpy member of the brass who thinks that they know better than their own kid."

5 times the 118 family were this close to realising that Eddie’s boyfriend and Bobby’s adopted son were in fact the same person, and the one time they compared notes.

Summary
Hen’s interest in their new captain was definitely piqued, and she could see that Chimney’s was too – who had he been to the beach and the market with? And why didn’t he want to share it with his crew?
As she ate the delicious meal and looked around at the chattering crew, the atmosphere the lightest it had been since it was announced that Gerrard was on his way out, Hen also found herself hoping that Nash would be sticking around if this was simply a precursor of things to come.
Although hopefully they’d manage to get some more information out of the stoic man at some point.

Or, over a decade before Eddie spends months dating the captain’s son without realising it, the 118 gets a new Captain.
Hen, Chim and the rest of the crew struggle with getting to properly know the stern and stoic Captain Nash – and then they get called to a scene where one Evan Buckley-Nash is stuck up a tree.

Summary
The thing was, the 118 was full of gossips.
Eddie had been at the station less than a week before Hen and Chim wrangled details about his “hot young thing” from him (“Buck is only 4 years younger than me, he is not a ‘hot young thing’!” Eddie complained.)
And Bobby was open about his worries for his son’s lack of direction and the secrets he appears to be keeping (“I just wish I could help Evan find the thing that gives him purpose,” Bobby lamented.)
It just made it all the more ridiculous (and horrifying) when Eddie realizes he’s been dating his Captain’s son this whole time (“Defiling his baby,” Chimney cackled, because he clearly wanted Eddie murdered.)
--
Or, the AU where miscommunication abounds as Eddie seeks advice about his new relationship, Bobby despairs over his adopted son's career prospects and his refusal to talk about it, and Evan Buckley-Nash juggles training at the fire academy, building a family with his new boyfriend, and trying to work out how to tell his overprotective dad that he's already chosen the life he wants, actually.
It takes a goddamn tsunami, of all things, to get the story straight.Series

Summary
The AU where Bobby adopted Evan when he was six years old, and then twenty years later Eddie joins the 118 and starts dating Buck... and no one initially realises that Evan and Buck are, in fact, the same person. Part 1 is the story of the identity shenanigans and the reveal.
Part 3 is a collection of missing scenes from the original story, while Parts 4 ('how it could have gone') and 5 ('another way it could have gone') are outtakes and depict two different scenarios where the reveal of Buck and Evan being the same person go a different way.
Part 2 'oh captain my captain' is a prequel and shows the 118 meeting Bobby and then later on Evan.
Part 6 'these are the days we've been waiting for' is the story of Buck's first day at the 118.
Part 7 'may you live in interesting times' is a sequel to that takes place about a year or so later, and Part 8 'I once was lost (but now I'm found)' directly follows on and is a full-length sequel and prequel to the main story.
This series as it is now is standalone and can be considered complete. The only reason I haven't marked it as such is because I do expect to be adding additional installments at some point in the future. Happy reading!
