Summary
Victoria Javadi has spent nearly twenty one years depriving herself, convinced that she just needs to focus on her studies and becoming a doctor, and then she could worry about everything else later. This generally worked out fine for her until she started working with resident physician, Dr. Cassie McKay, in her ED rotation.
With her emergency medicine rotation ending soon, Victoria doesn’t want to let another thing she wants slip through her fingers out of fear of acting.

Summary
This is useless. None of these people understand. Victoria sighs and nods thoughtlessly.
“I disagree.”
All heads turn towards the woman speaking, including Victoria’s. It’s the first time she’s hearing her voice.
The woman seems to think her words over before actually carrying on. “Well, as you guys know… I’m a doctor. My job is being against death. But if I had the chance to take away someone’s pain, or give them a chance at life even at the cost of my own…” She looks right at Victoria. “… I’d take it.”

Summary
She feels like she's wanted Victoria for longer than she's known her, since before Victoria was even born. Like she subconsciously willed her into life, made room for her in her thoughts before Cassie even knew what she was making room for. The want had been there, formless and festering, rotting inside her, and Victoria just walked in and took shape, gave it a face, fit perfectly into the shameful things Cassie had tried to swallow down.
