Bookmarker's Notes
out of all the fanfictions i've read on this site, this one may be the only one that has taken me on what felt like a never-ending journey of contemplation. initially beginning with its stirring, mystery-themed premise, i was drawn in by the methodical plot which seemed to cover so much of the elaborate wizarding world it was set in. the concept of time-splinching and all it took to pinpoint draco's location, or rather, time era, was such an enticing plotline to observe as harry continued unravelling the cold case. one of my favourite conventions of this fic was how it reiterated certain lines or concepts over and over again, though its purpose varied as the plot developed.
for instance, the paradoxical nature of the circle, as both draco and harry were in search of each other to no avail, seen in a time-turner, a remembrall, a silver snitch. living in a box, resemblant of thinking inside the box, which prevented harry from making any significant progress on draco's missing case. the consistency of the seasonal motif and how this impacted harry's location, relationships and mindset. home as a person rather than a place, found in the comfort of others by the fireplace rather than the blank, white walls, covered in nothing but dust. how both characters feel lost, like wanderers despite residing within their respective homes. their duality, loneliness despite being surrounded by people who care, instead finding that sense of belonging amongst one another.

how the story sets itself up is magical: harry seeking liberty by returning to hogwarts only to find reminders of why he retired as an auror to begin with. the balance between childhood rivalry and a sense of developed adulthood in harry and draco's first interaction was written so spectacularly, banter with a hint of newfound maturity (maybe not on harry's part... already reverting back to the ways of his half-blood prince era.) loving harry's immediate suspicion, draco's typical astuteness, this unresolved confliction they share. author presented them as professors so accurately, this could have been an extract from the books. tension is building with every interaction and harry is, quite frankly, unravelling at the seams. i am gasping at each subtlety during these damned interactions... this is a slowburn i can get by.
the level in which i appreciate appreciate harry's lack of admittance is unfathomable, it is in his body language that truth shows. loving the life or death phenomena, the never-ending debate. even the magic-related plotline has me hooked to this story like it's my lifeline. i enjoyed tuning into this very much!

this is the best amortentia-related prompt i've read simply because its use was acknowledged as psychotic rather than romantic. when draco is portrayed as a renowned healer it seems to cure me as well. i cannot imagine the frustration he felt every time harry waltz into his ward, raving on about somebody he didn't know the surname, ethnicity or occupation of. watching him slowly gain more consciousness with each new visit, muttered words becoming a mix of truth and potion-induced nonsense, wanting to say more after the effects of it wore off. finally breaking through the potion on the account of true love seemed to be the only fitting ending. i loved the recurring motif of draco checking harry pulse, with two fingers to the wrist extending to pressing them to his neck. harry's return to normalcy made for such interesting dialogue (i was pulling at my hair every time he stopped himself from spilling.)
draco's inability to believe harry had fully come back to himself after he kissed him was so endearing. after another chaste reminder he was still questioning things. he was off spouting about concerns for harry's health all over again until the bloke shut him up himself. his recital of the code of conduct was yet another perfect decision for his character, though he didn't exactly end up adhering to it. and for my favourite detail: the way draco's usual snarkiness faded as he cared for 'Lovesick Harry Potter', all cautious and patient, entertaining his fabricated fantasies and only making gentle contact when necessary, was just as charming. even with his own sorrows at seeing him fall in love with everybody but himself. this was truly heart-warming!

for godric's sake... i don't even know where to start with this one. for such a cliché concept, i really didn't expect there to be such a well done execution. the discordant nature of harry's life seems very fitting for a character who evaded studying like the plague, coming late to classes and swerving off-track in a matter of moments. loved seamus' willingness to help alongside hermione, and the fact that draco's arrival was pure coincidence rather than a loss of dignity. the speed at which harry jumped to the idea of having draco as his helper, once the idea had been planted, was ludicrous. trust draco to place pre-planned rules upon harry's sudden request for an assistant. and his confusion was very reasonable.
the way at which the fic progressed was really interesting, with solid scenes, then a breakthrough of shortened context scenes, before skipping a couple years forward. reading from harry's unreliable perspective set my hair on fire with how much steam was pouring out my ears. after hearing draco's torrent of feelings it really put into perspective how many of harry's thoughts were based off of assumptions (more specifically misconception.) the fact that he had no idea of their relations being theorised as romantic (after what... three or four years of living together) is absurd. i am metaphorically giving him the Look whilst writing this.
i've gone especially soft for the hospital scene. the efforts at which draco went to to ensure the auror's found and saved harry (unfortunately being able to do little else himself) was so memorable. plus the hand holding warmed my heart like a charm. all their interactions held meaning and you could count me as thoroughly invested. from start to finish i enjoyed this as a break (and probable distraction) from my studies!

this was actual insanity... i cruised through the story in two days, constantly gasping and giggling at the intimacy and dialogue. i felt so deprived at the beginning, especially with the 'avoiding each other' plot line, but was so well-fed by the end with everything that came after!! this is definitely going to my re-read category, it is such a perfect balance of describing what's actually happening while threading some really meaningful metaphors or descriptions of the thoughts behind it. GENUINELY SOOOO IN LOVE WITH THIS!! it deserves all the kudos it can get!
