You are detecting where *I* started overthinking the logic (or, perhaps, in a more meta sense, where Gurathin started overthinking the logic???).
But, to simplify this, let's assume this all takes place in its own contained world.
SecUnit is of course in the middle of total denial, like "This is all about Security. I'm so good at Security, I'm Securing so great, look, SecurityUnit, best, so secure, waow!" And Gurathin is catnip for it, because here is an Enemy, a Security Threat, who goes all goopy and nice whenever SecUnit has to do security things to him. SecUnit loves goopy nice humans. SecUnit is justifying itself being dubconny because of how goopy Gurathin goes and because of its duties.
Meanwhile Gurathin is half like "you know what, I didn't need spying, I don't even like spying, I could just ride this pleasure train straight off the fucking cliff" and half like "I'm a spy and I need to protect myself." But in the end, each of those are just being bent around as justifications for him to pursue this, because being focused on this intensely is intoxicating to him and he has never felt anything like it before. Plus he's spent years getting himself in trouble hammering various dopamine buttons, why should this be any different. A part of him also really wants someone to rescue him from his spiral, and this is absolutely the wrong place to pursue that, but SecUnit is also maybe the only intimacy he has and it's coming pain-free for now, which is huge. He wants this to stay pain-free. He wants SecUnit to save him, or ruin him, or both, but above all to be obsessed with him.
Awful vibes all around. Absolutely nuclear level sex. You know, just a normal fic about people being normal about normal stuff.
My one true love in fiction is probably Characters Running Face First Into The Consequences Of Their Actions (And Getting Back Up), so I couldn't resist.
Yeah, that's kind of what I thought too! Murderbot comes off as early in the govmod-hack era, and clearly has no idea what it's doing. The only reason it's working out is that Gurathin is a miserable, desperately lonely husk of a man.
The contrast between Murderbot being so proud of itself for getting in A+ in Taking Care Of A Human Who Isn't Scared Of It and Gurathin's idle musings on how he's being partly motivated by the threat of blackmail? Crunchy! Possibly devastating if it comes up in the future!
There I was writing part one like "what a nice consequence-free little fantasy!!" It's never a consequence-free little fantasy.
They're hurtling towards the point where any blackmail would simply be mutually assured destruction. At that point, we'll see if they continue to throw themselves down the road to their worst fears, or if they decide to be kind to each other.
