Oh no kidding, I completely agree on how much we were deprived. One thing that bugs me in Aslyum of the Daleks episode is like there is no mention at all between Amy and Rory over the fact they have a daughter. Frankly at times Moffat's writing of personal character beats sucks or like if he's showrunner the guy gets to far caught up in the big stuff. Some of his earlier RTD episodes had such good quiet character moments. Plus for the first time since 1963 with Susan, The Doctor was once again traveling with family he's related to, maybe not by blood but still family non the less with Amy and Rory being his in laws.
Like Amy had that one "Oh my god I'm the Doctor's mother in law" which was well still funny but beyond that there was no real exploring of anything family wise. Especially for River with her parents of all that story potential yet about zero of it used.
Some members of the fandom think that River had no real relationship with her parents who almost just like couldn't really see her as their daughter or what not, especially with Rory and the sad fact is given we didn't really get any of that on the show there's a case to be made.
