This is so sweet and tender and sad and nostalgic in all of the best ways. Jack's foster kids being so similar to Race and Jack just absolutely pulled at my heart strings. Josiah having nightmares about being alone and waking up looking for his brother and Jack and Davey - OOF. Josiah talks like a little kid would talk.
Nurturing Jack has my whole heart: the hot chocolate, the buttered noodles because he knows he can't handle anything else, the nicknames, the frustration and CONCERN.
"For a moment, he hopes neither of them turn out like Race.
He shakes his head to get rid of that idea as he walks down the stairs— Race is a wonderful, smart, kindhearted kid who got screwed over by a lot of things he couldn't control and made some bad decisions as a result of it. He fucked up, sure, but he was smart enough and strong enough to come here and ask for help. That's nothing to scoff at, and Jack would be incredibly proud if either of the boys grew up to have his brother's wit, charm, optimism, or compassion". I literally read this part out loud to my sister. He just loves his baby brother so much!!
