Strong hands are on him in an instant and he doesn’t even hesitate to fall into Phil, the dam he’d so dutifully kept in place for months breaking as loud sobs are dragged out of him. He doesn’t even care that he’s being loud, that Phil is holding him on the ground in a damp cave, that he’s snotty and gross and he’ll cringe at this memory later.
He’d been so close. They’d come so far and his best friend, his husband, had finally, finally been within his reach. They hadn’t even seen Dream. They never did, either time. They never even saw him. He didn’t even have to be there to wreak havoc on their lives, to take away the months of progress.
