Summary
'Killua snorts. “These days? Please. Your people might as well come lie with mine. You’ve made your beds.” Gon stares, perplexed. Killua spins the dagger in his right hand around his index finger. “Your Daimyō will come and go before summer's reached its peak, and your duty will be done, too. We left honour with the emperors. All anyone does these days is survive.” Gon’s frown deepens and his jaw tenses.
“That’s not true.” '
Set in the Sengoku period in Japan, the Era of Warring States. Killua is an assassin trained in the Iga-ryu school. Gon is a peasant turned samurai working for the Daimyo Kurapika, who has recently risen to power. Kurapika is Killua's target, but he has to get through Gon first.

Summary
Two stone lanterns signaled the entrance into the garden, their light long extinguished from their last use. Next to the lantern on the right was a beautiful tsukubai inscribed with a poem that Killua did not recognize. Gon stopped and grabbed the wooden ladle that lain across the water basin. He scooped up the water from the small chozubachi (basin) and poured it on his left hand and then his right. Afterwards he scooped more water and poured it again into his free hand and brought it to his mouth. Killua watched Gon purify himself, how easy it would be to slit his throat now while his mind was occupied with the ritualistic entrance to the garden. Killua keeps his daggers sheathed.

Part 3 in Metavirus and my 'Duty' series, updated weekly between Tuesday and Thursday. A Killugon multi-chapter AU set in late medieval Japan, in which Gon is a samurai in the service of recently successful Daimyo Kurapika, and Killua is the assassin hired to kill him.
---
Gon replies, firmly. “You do not have to do this.” Killua frowns a little. He wants to say that this is generous of Kurapika, all things considered. He wants to say that this is war, and that he is his enemy, and that Gon seems to be the only person here that’s missing that. He wants to say that this is not the time or the life or the age to try and make room for one another’s sensitivities.
He says, “I’ll be fine.”

Summary
Daimyo Kurapika was not only charismatic but generous. He had given Killua a chamber to retire to during his unforeseen stay at the Daimyo’s humble castle with its lavish chaniwa. The room was like the castle: small, but useful. It does its job and was surprisingly clean for an extra room (Kurapika had make sure everything is in the best shape possible no matter the season). Killua had no belongings to place since everything on his person, his weapons and clothes, were all he had and none of which he was willing to part with beyond sleep.

Summary
Gon continues, and his voice is low and warm. “And you haven’t changed, in some ways.” That catches his attention, and he glances up, raising an eyebrow. Gon smiles at him, the curve of his lips barely perceptible in the darkness, and his big rough thumb strokes his cheekbone, once, gently. “You still blush when I smile.”

Summary
Kurapika leads the group along on horseback with Leorio and some of their best body guards. The group is flanked by the leftover soldiers, some on horseback others walking on foot, while Killua takes up the rear solo. Killua had insisted it be so since he would be the only one to notice an attack from behind anyways (that being his speciality). Kurapika acquiesced to his request easily as exhaustion weighed him down like a heavy rain would the leaves of a tree. He was even kind enough to lend Killua a horse.
