Evbo was getting used to dying. The trek from wood swords to iron swords was not always the nicest, sure, but it gave him some time to think. And to talk. Specifically to his guard friend!
Okay, so maybe they weren’t friends, as the guard had said previously. Evbo didn’t even know his name.
But they were getting there! Evbo was sure.

“My guard friend?” Evbo mumbled out, and then a bit louder, “...Raymond? Is that you?”
“It is. I’m here to break you out.”
The door slid open a bit more, and Evbo saw his full face, sunglasses and all. The light spilled in even further, illuminating most of the cramped space. He had never been more thankful to see a guard in his life.
“Finally!” He cheered, scrambling up to a stand.
“...Well, sort of.”

Evbo gets stuck in his endless deathloop for a little longer than canon, and the guard tries to lift his spirits. (With candy!)

A light on it was lit a bright red, and beeping. The screen read ‘Video Download 56 Complete. Play Preview?’ Two options, yes or no, appeared below.
It was the non-stop talked about video journal. Raymond had heard that Evbo had one of these at every single level. It seemed to be all he did when he wasn’t dying or fighting, talking to this thing.
He absentmindedly raised a finger and tapped ‘yes.’

While the guard is hiding out at Evbo's mansion, he stumbles upon his video journals. Snooping ensues.

“It’s okay, dude. I’m right here.”
Raymond watched as Evbo jumped in surprise, spinning to look for where he was. He stumbled for a moment before catching his breath.
“Oh.” Evbo’s eyes landed on him. He gave a short, gasp-y laugh. “You’re in the pool.”
The guard reached for his sunglasses, slipping them on as Evbo took a few weary steps toward him. “Yeah?”
