Summary
“I’m sorry,” Grace whispers, tears silently running down her cheek. “I tried. I swear I tried. But I couldn’t… I couldn’t save you… I’m so sorry I didn’t save you.”
Suddenly it’s no longer Emily in that bed. It’s her mom, hair as blonde as wheat and a heart just as golden.
For a woman that didn’t have Grace biologically, they look dramatically alike, and now Grace has to truly face the simple fact that every day she’s going to look into the mirror and watch her own mother stare back at her.
Because she’s dead.

Summary
Truth of the matter is that, despite her overwhelming desire to take Emily under her wing, Grace also feels incredibly inadequate.
Not only is Emily a child, a whole child with a brain and a body that needs equal amounts of nurturing, she is an experiment.
Was.
Regardless of present or past tense, Emily has scars. Wounds that Grace is wholly unequipped to deal with.
She won’t admit it without at least half a bottle of vodka down her throat, but Grace was relieved when Jamie said she couldn’t just take Emily home right away.
Who knows what could’ve happened if she did?
It’d be ironic if Grace somehow managed to get Emily killed when years being imprisoned by The Connections or Umbrella or whoever the fuck is truly behind all of this couldn’t.

Summary
Emily has green eyes.
Big, green eyes that peer up at Grace in a way that's intelligent, curious, and unmistakable.
Emily, tiger plush nowhere to be seen, slowly approaches. In turn, Grace kneels down so they can be of equal eye level.
She's shaking so badly, her knees feel like they're going to drill through the floor.
“Is that really you?” Emily asks, in that same, scared little voice she used when they first met. Grace never wants to hear it ever again. “Grace?”
“Hi Emily.” Emily gasps. Grace smiles through her tears. “Will you come here, baby?”
Emily comes home on a Tuesday.

Summary
Maeve always has very expressive blue eyes, but right now they're dull and dark. Like the brewing ocean just before a storm.
Grace gulps, squirming when said eyes track the movement of her throat before flinching away. It's insufferable, the way neither of them know how to act around each other anymore.
“Do you… still have my number?”
“Yes.” Grace nods. She purses her lips into a thin line so as to not let slip any confession about never having deleted it in the first place.
“Okay.” Maeve shuffles back, and apparently that's all the time she has for Grace. “See you.”
As soon as Maeve disappears behind the corner, Grace finds a wall so she can slam her head into.
This is going to be a mess.
After the events of RE9, Leon reaches out to Grace for a favor: Deliver Elpis to one Jill Valentine and Claire Redfield.
Indebted to her friend, Grace files a field assignment request to Director Dempsy. Her request is approved, but only on one condition: Grace must have a partner.
It just so happens that the partner Director Dempsy has in mind is her workplace situationship. Surely this can only end well.

Summary
“I’m really honored that you want me to meet Emily. I know she means a lot to you.”
And you mean a lot to me too, Grace wants to say but can’t find a way through the lump stuck to her throat.
It’s hard, not because it isn’t true, but because one way or another, everyone Grace had ever loved had suffered. Sometimes, a lot of times, at her own hands.
Her therapist says it’s not her fault. So does Jamie. So does Leon. If her mother was still alive, she would say the same thing.
But it’s not that simple. Grace wishes it is, but it’s not.
It’s… just not.
Maeve finally meets Emily, and Grace is more selfish than she seems.

Summary
“I just don't get it,” Grace remembers complaining one day, having just tripped on air and face-planted into the nearest locker at school. “Have you seen me? I haven't gotten a bit of flexibility in my bones.”
Alyssa vigilantly held it in, but Grace’s high-pitched whining easily broke her stupor.
Her smile was as warm as the sun outside, and her touch even more so applying some ancient ointment against the bruise on Grace’s cheek.
“It's not about being graceful,” her mother said. “You are full of grace because you come to me like a gift. One I haven't done anything to earn.”
Approaching a year since the events of RE9, as Emily officially begins her schooling outside the home, Grace finds herself struggling with the ghosts of her past in more ways than one.
Meanwhile, Maeve is forced to confront her past in the most brutal way possible.
Reeling from a confrontation that left her shaking, Maeve has to make a difficult choice after receiving yet another field assignment request from Director Dempsy.
Grace is not going to like this.

Summary
Grace knew Maeve was in this for the long haul, but these sorts of gestures are so sweet and not rare whatsoever, that they never fail to make Grace yearn for her.
It's ridiculous. How can she yearn when Maeve is standing right here?
I want to marry you.
Oh.
That's how.
