Summary
"You ever hear that old myth?" Val asked, not looking at him, her fingers tracing the raised scars on her forearm. "About the red thread?" Robert snorted, kicking at a loose stone with the toe of his boot. "The fuck kinda fortune cookie bullshit is that?"
She didn’t answer right away. Instead, she leaned back against the windshield, the glass groaning under her weight. The sky was bleeding orange at the edges; the kind of sunset that made the desert look like it was on fire. She exhaled, slow, like she was trying to let go of something heavy. "Means we’re tied," she said finally, "like, in every lifetime. No matter what."
He didn't know what to say or where to begin, so he did what he had always done. Acted. The kiss wasn't soft. It wasn't gentle. It was the kind of kiss that tasted like hope, dreams, and the world in front of them. Robert gripped the back of V's neck and for a second, he let himself believe in that stupid red thread shit.
**V and Johnny meet throughout their lives at different times as different people, but their feelings remain the same.**

Summary
"It's different," Val murmured. Her voice held none of its usual razor edge and was instead filled with quiet wonder. "Not bad." She flexed around him on purpose, watching his eyelashes flutter. "You feel...good." Robert let out something between a laugh and a groan. The amber bottle glinted from where it had rolled against the cot springs, catching the low light as he shifted his hips fractionally. Val's thighs tensed against his sides, just feeling, as he withdrew before sliding back in slowly. The drag was smoother now, her body accepting where before it had resisted. He almost burst at that thought alone. She'd accepted him.
