  Summary

  Texas, 1890

  Joel finds Ellie locked up in a dark cellar and immediately decides she's not his problem. But he leaves the door open, which means she's gonna make herself his problem.

  Ellie is looking for her mother and decides the two outlaws headed north are about as good a ride as she's gonna get.

  Few things go as planned on their journey north. Joel is prepared for bounty hunters, lawmen, and old gang members. He's not at all prepared for the little girl to take root in his heart like that.

  The girl's mother, though? Well, she's pretty much exactly what he expected. The girl's gotta get it from somewhere after all.
