The lavender smell around him got weaker as he kept his mouth shut. It was even better that way, as even though Bell was young, he spoke the truth. That was an annoying quality of his, the way he used his words like he used his guns. With skill.

Summary
Maybe he was right, even if the knot in Colm's chest, the one he'd call a heart, was telling him that Owen was just set on a goal to get the boy in his bed and make him more of a little doll. Colm wasn't in a position to argue with him, and he didn't care about Micah (or anyone, for that matter) enough to be glad that he had fought with him, even though Owen seemed better than Micah Bell the First probably was. Bathing, and clothes and the oysters and the hard-boiled eggs were the things Micah clearly wanted, with the way he devoured them even before dinner had officially started. He just didn't want to pay the price. Colm, however, had already paid it as Owen sighed, putting a dramatic hand to his forehead.

As if lying in a bed stained with puke, piss, and empty bottles would help. It would not, but the worse the man felt, the better it was for Colm. Otherwise, Micah wouldn't let him touch him like that.
