Other people didn't have to fear the people they loved would one day turn on them, but apparently it's just Sam's lot in life to be staring down the barrel of a gun, held by the man who'd raised him and loved him till he'd learned the truth of Sam's heritage. He was not really looking for it, more a go-with-the-flow kind of guy, since usually when he went after something it ended up blowing in his face.
So he was totally unprepared to be roughly pulled out of that placid state of existence by what should have been a no-strings-attached night of sex that became so much more in a few hours.
