Summary
“Why are you back?” the painter asked, puzzled.
The show was over, the town’s treasure had been successfully stolen and the cycle was supposed to be repeated all over again in a different town, so why was this man still here, and in his room?
The man’s expression, which up to that point had always been playful and somewhat sneaky, looked now a little different, although the painter couldn’t exactly pinpoint what was amiss.
“I saw no harm in staying behind for a few hours before departing,” he stated. “If you’ll have me, that is,” he added, probing.
