You and Kaoru both stand quietly and slurp your noodles; Yoshiki exists beside you, carrying Kaoru's stuffed frog under one arm and your stuffed alligator under the other.
"Man... the rain's gettin' the decorations all soaked."
Yoshiki doesn't respond — not even to just say "yeah" or something like he normally would.
"Ya bummed everything's gettin' wet or somethin'?"
"Nah. We were just gonna send it all down the river later anyway."
Empathy and compassion don't come naturally to you. Most of the time in social situations you don't really get what's going on. It's different with Yoshiki, though. You know something's on his mind — you don't know how you know, but you know.
Or: Hikaru, Yoshiki, and Kaoru attend Kubitachi's Tanabata festival. It starts to rain.

Yoshikaru Week 2025, Day 1: Dorodoro
Finally after what feels like several minutes (but was likely closer to 10 mortifying seconds) the first knuckle of your index finger grazes something hard. You practically lunge for it, grasping it tightly before you can lose track of it again. The sudden movement causes Hikaru's entire body to tense up and you're sure you feel drool start to seep into the fabric over the shoulder of your other arm.
("It's the weekend," he'd said. "Who wears a backpack on the weekend?" Like he's some kind of expert on what's socially acceptable... but at the end of the day, you suppose you're just as much of an idiot for listening to him.)
Or: Yoshiki and Hikaru sneak snacks into a movie theater.

Summary
The world turns topsy turvy for Kabru in his PhD program when the Utaya Defense Treaty, an international agreement to control confidential information about Utaya is finally gone. Now he can finally uncover information about the Utaya disaster that the Elven government so desperately wants to hide. However, that doesn’t mean the Northern Central Continent is going to play fairly with keeping what they want under wraps, even if that means targeting those abroad who wish to put their nose where they don’t belong. Fighting against the Elven government's attempts to reinstate the treaty in less than a year and threats being posed to those who dare to challenge them, Kabru has no other choice but to risk himself for the cause of figuring out what the Northern Central Continent is hiding about Utaya.
