Summary
Miles was under no illusion that his feelings were reciprocated. There was a limit to how much he was willing to indulge his wildest fantasies, and that Phoenix might one day confess an undying love, or – heaven forbid – kiss him was so far beyond the realm of possibility that it was laughable. It was so improbable that he wouldn’t allow himself to even entertain the thought, lest his runaway heart got the wrong idea.
(Not that it stopped it some days. Sometimes Miles wished he could open up his ribcage and strangle his stupid heart until it behaved itself.)
That was fine. Miles would be satisfied if they stayed nothing more than friends. That was more than what he could ask for, more than what he deserved. It would be enough.
The problem was, every now and again, Phoenix did something that got his hopes up.
Miles Edgeworth’s relationship with Phoenix Wright was so complicated that it took them a decade to sort it out. Or: on Miles and Phoenix through the years.

Miles blinked a few times, hoping perhaps that he was simply reading the time wrong, but no, the clock continued to stubbornly read twelve thirty-two AM even as he glared at it. 'Whoever this is better have a good reason for calling me,' he thought furiously, fumbling for the answer button. “Hello?” he said. “This is Miles Edgeworth.”
“Hi Mr. Edgeworth, do you think Pops killed my mom?”

Summary
After Phoenix falls off a bridge and nearly dies, Miles decides to do something he never thought he would: ask Phoenix out. Their relationship starts out well, but Miles isn't the most open of individuals, and a long-instilled fear of how others will react to their relationship keeps him hesitant about even mild shows of affection where others can see. As things progress and their lives change, Miles decides to take a family vacation to somewhere no one knows Phoenix Wright or Miles Edgeworth, and the likelihood of anyone caring about a gay couple with a child is smaller.
