Being an unfortunate combination of street pigeon and goose, she couldn't compete with the shimmering feathers of her kin.

One of her sisters had once described her voice as the equivalent of a grotesque fusion of goose-quacking, chalk squeaking on the blackboard and the death scream of a banshee. In short, even those around her who did not simply order her to be quiet were grateful when she communicated by gesture or in writing.But one day, when she was humming quietly to herself - assuming she was alone - none other than the Sin of Wrath, Satan, overheard her melody. And to the great bewilderment of both of them, her voice seemed to sound completely different to the de facto reigning ruler of hell than to the rest of hell...

The story focuses on the slowly growing relationship between Severus Snape and Hermione Granger, and follows them to her last year at Hogwarts. It is mixed with the adventure of horcrux hunting. While the relationship blossoms while they are still a student and teacher, Hermione is of age by the time anything happens between them (actually 19 because of the time she aged using a time turner).

Joseph brought his hand up and grasped her wrist, flattening her hand against his chest. She was trembling, breathing heavy as adrenaline coursed through her body. Reflexively, she tried to pull away, but he was strong and did not let go.
His lips pressed against the top of her head, and he inhaled deeply, taking in her scent. It was strange and intimate, inappropriate and yet not unwanted. Heat began to spread through her body and Violet wasn’t sure if she wanted to rip off Joseph’s head or his clothes. It was starting to feel one and the same, this passion she had toward him that was becoming more difficult to deny.
