Summary
“I—I would tell you.” He says reflexively, but he doesn’t take it back. The words are true. He hears Mike’s breath catch and his hand twitches. “I just wouldn’t want you to– to pity me. Or see me… differently.”
“I would never.” The response is instant. “You’re strong. I’d never pity you. I… god, how do I explain?” Mike turns his body to face Will head on and grabs his hand properly. Will feels a shiver run through him, but he squeezes back all the same. “I’m sorry. I’m so fucking sorry, for what you’ve been through, whatever it is. But it would never, never make me look at you differently.”
“Promise?”
“I promise."
Or: Will breaks down after the events at the MAC Z and trusts Mike to help him pick up the pieces.

Mike knows he looks stupid, unable to control the way his eyebrows furrow and his lips curl in complete confusion. Then his roommate rolls his eyes and makes a gesture like he’s cracking a whip, complete with sound effect. His cheeks heat up, the realization suddenly dawning on him.
He thinks Mike was on the phone to his girlfriend.
He thinks Mike has a girlfriend.
He thinks that Will is Mike’s girlfriend.
Everyone at college thinks Mike has a girlfriend. There's just one problem. The 'girlfriend' in question is Will Byers. Mike's best friend. Platonic with a capital P. He's so screwed.

Shoving his face into the mattress in that way that Will loves. Coming inside him. Dirtying him even more. Falling back asleep with Mike inside him and never leaving the bed, never leaving each other's arms. Food, coffee, life - it can all wait.
Sometimes Will worries that it’s becoming unhealthy. That he’s too obsessed, and that one day it’s all going to crash and burn. Or worse, that they will slowly fizzle out over time.Will becomes concerned that he wants Mike more than what's probably considered normal. Mike proves him wrong. Multiple times.

Will tenses. “Told you what?” he asks carefully.
Mike exhales through his teeth, as if preparing to leap off a cliff. “About the guy you liked.”
Silence in the basement thickens. Even the flashlight seems dimmer.
“Mike…” Will begins.
“I know,” Mike interrupts quickly. “You didn’t have to. And I’m not mad. It’s just…” He shrugs, still not looking at Will. “I really thought you liked Robin… or… that you didn’t like anyone at all.”
“Yeah… It would be easier,” Will whispers.
Mike nods. He understands that better than he wants to. “And now it’s worse,” he adds, finally looking at Will.
“Worse?” Will frowns. “Why?”
Mike gives a crooked, nervous smile, as if he can’t quite believe it himself. “Because now I have to think… maybe I have a chance.”
