Summary
Ryland doesn't know where he is, what he's doing, or why he's doing it. All he knows is that he's in a universe with no stars and that an organization called the COI found the Hail Mary spinning out into deep space. He knows that Rocky may be injured somewhere, and he knows that the man that currently lays in a hospital bed in front of him should be dead as dirt but has miraculously survived.

Summary
A couple months into living on Erid, Ryland Grace is settling in well to the enclosure he's fairly certain he's going to be living in for the rest of his life. He's making his peace with that to the best of his ability. Well, he was making his peace with it, but then something fell out of the sky.
The convict doesn't know who he is, but he knows he wasn't supposed to survive whatever happened to him. He remembers an ocean. He remembers something went horribly wrong. He remembers voices. And when he wakes up, he remembers the last place he wants to be is trapped in a dark place with no way out. Then a door opens, and there is a light at the end of the tunnel.

Summary
Ryland Grace unfortunately became important at work. His boss, Director Eva Stratt, moved him back to the states right after a three-month sabbatical to help Ava Ironchild with a strange issue. Her sanctuary has been struggling with a recent arrival, and someone needs to step in. Grace, for a reason he doesn't understand whatsoever, was the first person Eva thought of to deal with this... at least he gets to see his old friends?

In 1949, we sent the first primate to space.
A little rhesus monkey. The scientists forced him into the rocket.
He died upon impact with the ground. But, first, far from home, a monkey touched the stars.
Far from home, a child of Earth was spat out. Here, he is resurrected, emerged into a new world.
Monkey... something has followed you.
(Three years in to the journey to Erid, there is something so bright and big in the Hail Mary’s path that it triggers an automatic shutdown of their engines.
When they stop, there is nothing bright there. In the center of where this anomaly would have been, there is a submarine. An improbable submarine, and the even more improbable person inside of it. He is far from home, praying for safety in his dreams, where he floats in the water of kind oceans and hears his mother spin bedtime stories. He wants, with all his being, to be saved.
Someone is listening. Someone is re-writing his story.
Someone gives him Grace.)
