   Summary

   Spock’s eyes flick toward Jim’s hand. His posture remains rigid, but he slowly lifts his own hand to touch Jim’s fingertips in a tender exchange. “The statistical probability of Starfleet intervention,” Spock begins, “is compromised by the fact that the Neutral Zone is off-limits. They will not risk an interstellar incident.”

   “That’s exactly what scares me,” Jim replies, voice tight. He squeezes Spock’s arm, then stands, pacing across the room. “Bones is out there, beyond the Neutral Zone. We’re hearing rumors that Romulans have him.”
