“Did they even tell you what your reward is if you manage to beat the odds of your own incompetence?” Aaron said, still out of view.
“If I read correctly, I was promised a husband.” Kevin hummed.
“That’s absurd. You’re a man.” Aaron raised an eyebrow.
“Mhm.”

“Correct, you would be king, I think my official title would be consort.” Kevin nodded.
“That affords you no political power.” Aaron gesticulated wildly, he started to pace in and out of Kevin’s line of sight.

“Where are you going?” Andrew called when Aaron’s hand curled around the knob of the front door.
“Out,” Aaron hissed. “It’s 4 in the morning, why are you on the floor?”
Andrew was just far enough into the dark of the kitchen that Aaron had to squint in his direction to make out the barest hint of a human shape leaning against a cabinet.
Andrew didn’t say anything.
“You good?” Aaron whispered, letting go of the door handle and stepping slowly towards the kitchen.
Andrew patted the floor beside him. As Aaron’s eyes adjusted he noticed the spoon in Andrew’s mouth and the half-empty tub of ice cream on the floor beside him and a sleeve of saltine crackers.

“The Moriyama’s paid good money for you to have your own room.” Matt said“Their money is only good so long as the school has enough beds for incoming students.” Dan said. She slid up beside her boyfriend in Kevin’s door.
“Riko still has his room to himself.” Matt pointed out.
“Riko is a Moriyama.” Neil added as if anybody were wondering why Kevin got left to share. “Practice with me tonight?”
“Yeah, sure.”
Neil grinned.
“Wonder who the new kid is. Hope he isn’t an asshole.” Neil said. A short blonde man pushed past Neil a little too aggressively.
“Andrew?” Matt asked. The boy pivoted swiftly to give Matt the finger before throwing a single suitcase onto the bed opposite Kevin’s.
“Did you swap with the new guy or something?” Dan asked.
“That’s not Andrew.” Neil frowned, noticing the new guy’s uncovered forearms at the same time Kevin did.
