“YOU’RE INVITED TO THE REDFIELD BACKYARD GRILL PARTY! BE THERE OR BE SQUARE! AND DON’T BE TRIANGLE!”
It was a hodge-podge of clip art on a loud yellow paper with red, green, pink, other colors he couldn’t care to name, confetti. The text remained in a classic red with a cliche dorky-ass font that reminded him of “The Berenstain Bears”. Leon found a half-smile flittering across his face. He checked the location; it was Claire’s house, he’s clocked that place once or twice, nice home with a rather ostentatious backyard for his liking, but if this was a recurring event, then it made sense.
The date however…
Leon frowned, checking his watch, at the same time wondering why going to this stupid party made something in him flutter. The contractor gave him three weeks to finish, and low-and-behold the Redfield-thing happened in the last week of his contract. Fuck, he’d miss it-
Leon paused, wondering why on God’s brown Earth did he care so much. His eyes trailed over the invite, something wrong and heavy sat in his chest.

Summary
Chris still didn’t fully believe Claire when she would describe Leon when they first met. The boyish charm, the youthful smile; everything pointed to another person. Then seeing Leon back in Valdelobos, most of that boyish innocence was gone, if not all of it. Infected and for some reason helping save the President’s Daughter. A Mercenary saving the United States President’s daughter. What a weird B-movie plot.
OR
Chris and Leon try to meet in a neutral location to learn more about each other rather than just in passing; only for both of them to realize how much harder this will be.

Summary
“Chris, you gotta open your eyes for me man. Come on!” He feels someone tapping his cheek, their hand so warm he’s almost compelled to lean into it. The person above him curses, “Hate me later but we have to move.” The floor rumbles underneath, something roars, the sound deafening to Chris as he groans, feeling his teeth almost rattle. The person beside him mumbles a few apologises, warm hands move from Chris’ cheek to his ears, providing him some semblance of silence.
“Piers! Grab Chris and go, now!” Another voice shouts overhead the gunfire.
“I’m not leaving you!” Piers reluctantly moves one hand from Chris’ face to tap his earpiece.
“Chris needs medical attention! We can’t wait! I’ll be right behind you, go!” More tremors rumble underneath them, drawing a curse from the Lieutenant before he slings his rile over his shoulders.
“God damn it Leon!”

He set the coffee beside her as she smiled briefly before taking his report. “Did you get checked with medical already?” Leon leaned against her desk, hiding the instinctual pout, “If I say yes will you let me go early?” She narrowed her eyes, glancing at Leon before she sighed, “You need to check up with medical. Even if this mission went off with barely any issues-”
“Fine, I’m on it.” He waved his hand as he walked to the medical wing, being surprisingly cooperative.

Leon shuddered a breath out of his frozen lungs and asked numbly, “Why do you hate me?”
There was a quiet more invasive than the deadly silence of the world beyond the walls protecting them and Leon hated himself for being so stupid— stupid fucking Kennedy saying shit he wasn’t supposed to say— fumbling for a way to cover up his fuck up, when Chris’s low voice broke the silence, saying, “I don’t hate you, Leon. I never have.”
“Liar,” Leon accused softly into the darkness of their warm refuge. “You’re a f-fucking liar.”

Summary
There is a tacit understanding between those who constantly live in danger that separation is never too far away. Friends and enemies alike may leave just as suddenly as they arrive, greetings and farewells exchanged as quickly as a rapidly firing gun. However, to worry is to be human, and even though Chris should've grown used to the shadows of death haunting those around him, himself included, the thought of losing a loved one remains a thorn in his heart, one that he always fails to pluck away.
A little #Chreon story set immediately after the ending of RE9: Requiem, featuring an illustration by Brilcrist.
