The moment the object hit the ground, it erupted –a blinding detonation of pure white light that swallowed the entire rooftop. No sound. No heat. Just light. So bright it seared through his closed eyelids, through his hands thrown up to shield his face, through every attempt his body made to protect itself.
Damian stumbled backward, disoriented, his vision bleached into nothing. He blinked rapidly, but the world refused to come back into focus. For a terrifying few seconds, he was completely blind.
When his vision finally returned - patchy and blurred at the edges - the rooftop was empty.

However, to his surprise, from the moment he set foot in Gotham and declared before the king that he was his blood-born son, everything went downhill.

What he didn't expect to see however, was Damian coming into the kitchen dead at night, raiding the cabinets like a raccoon.He stops and stares, and Damian pays him no mind as he takes out a bowl of cereal of fruit loops, a bagel slice with strawberry cream cheese, and just when Tim thinks he’s done– Damian walks back and takes out a whole tub of marshmallow fluff.
Huh. One of the weirdest hallucinations he’s had, indeed.

Summary
Damian is a physician returning to America after years of working overseas. He has spent his life traveling from place to place, providing medical care wherever it was needed, never staying longer than necessary. He was content with that life, even if he sometimes wondered what it would be like to have a place to call home—something that had always felt out of reach and long accepted as such.
Now working in a hospital in New York due to a shortage of doctors, he finds himself closer to his past than he has been in years. Being back in the same country as his family and in a city like New York brings old memories to the surface. He wonders, briefly, if they will ever meet again.
Most likely not.
His family never cared for him to begin with.
And that was fine… He would continue to cherish them from a distance, even if it was never reciprocated. As long as they were healthy and happy. There was nothing more he could ask for.
So, what if he was suddenly needed in Gotham?
He should have known the moment he stepped off that plane.
His plan of staying away wouldn’t go as planned.

However, when he was a teenager, he received a new soulmark: a bird with an injured, wrapped wing right on the palm of his hand. Over the next few years, he met new people, created new bonds, became Nightwing, and tried to live his life. Everything was going relatively okay, or as okay as it can be when you're a vigilante and the son of a billionaire, but he couldn't stop thinking of the unknown, unbonded bird whose mark he watched with great interest, pain, and longing.
Meanwhile, in Nanda Parbat, a young child by the name of Damian al Ghul, the prince of a cult and a trained assassin, was born with a sleeve of soulmarks. He never met them and had no plans to do so. Zuko is Sokka’s first in many ways, and in many ways he isn’t. Zuko is Sokka’s first omega friend - well, technically, that would be Toph, but she was twelve and didn’t present yet back then, so, doesn’t count. Zuko is his first best friend, what’s more important - and considering how fast Aang is moving towards being promoted to brother-in-law status, Sokka doesn’t feel guilty about putting Zuko first. The most important thing about best friends is your sister not stealing them, anyways. Zuko is definitely the first firebender he fought, but that’s embarrassing history, for both of them. Zuko is Sokka’s first jailbreak, and that’s actually cool. Or hot, considering the jail. You know, boiling hot.
