Katara began to feel like the floor was slipping from under her. The room was no longer still and she was growing increasingly dizzy. She grabbed on to a column to steady herself. Zuko rushed to her side, bracing her against his warm body. Their eyes met briefly and Zuko found the answer he had been searching for.

“And here I thought you were just a handsome face.” It took Aang a moment to realise that Katara was talking to Appa and not to him. It took significantly longer for his heart to understand the same thing, and it hammered against his chest with a rapid rhythm. “Such a brave boy.” She looked up at Aang again and added, somewhat shyly, “You’re very brave, too.”
“Oh, I—thank you. So are you.”
He had no idea why he’d said that.
When volunteer search and rescue handler Aang takes Appa to the new vet in town, he doesn't anticipate coming face-to-face with the most beautiful woman he's ever seen. It starts with an awkward appointment and, somewhere along the way, turns into coffee dates and late-night calls.
Then a callout goes wrong. Suddenly, it's not just his heart on the line.
