He had stepped aside for a moment while Xue Yang was distracted with Xingchen; now he’s back, with a heavy leather paddle, a long-tailed flogger, and a wicked-looking crop in his hands. Xue Yang does as he’s told, and Song Lan gives him an approving nod, dropping the toys on the bed. “Xingchen, show him your signal.”
Xingchen taps promptly on the back of Xue Yang’s neck: two sharp, staccato drumbeats, unmistakable even amidst the clink and shift of the chains. “Got that?” Song Lan says. “He does that, you tell me right away. That’s the only reason I’ll stop.”
Xue Yang helps Song Lan take Xingchen apart.

Lan Wangji attempts to move on, and the itch under his skin climbs all the way up into his skull to attack his brain. He watches his reflection as his posture shifts, his shoulders softening and curling in slightly, one of his hips cocking to add a curve to his spine. He lets his hand settle lightly on his hip, drawing more attention to the curve, and twists his torso so there's more of a contrast between the indent of his waist and the sway of his hip, tipping his head so his hair drapes further down over his shoulder. He meets his own eyes and for just an instant he sees someone else, someone softer, someone prettier—
Heart hammering, Lan Wangji rips himself away from the mirror and towels off his hair with shaking hands.

Nie Huaisang’s eyes go very deliberately from Wei Ying down to the stylus now rolling slowly across the linoleum and back to Wei Ying. Their eyebrow goes up like someone’s pulling it with a fishhook, obvious even with their hair half-falling out of the ponytail they can’t seem to keep in place today. They don’t look like they believe him, which… Fair.
“Seriously!” Wei Ying says, scrubbing his hands over his face and offering up a winning smile. “I’m just excited.” He leaves his hands covering his cheeks, like that’s going to hide the blush he already feels coming on. “It’s date night.”

The way the red of his necktie pops against a black suit jacket that fits perfectly to the width of his shoulders, the line of his slim waist.
Beautiful, Luo Binghe thinks.

The man looks up, their eyes meeting, and Luo Binghe’s pulse leaps.
