Jaiden can’t help the twinge of self-consciousness that tugs in her gut, wanting to immediately cover or flip her canvas from view. It was far from her best work.
When she’s on her feet, however, Bobby and Roier are already bent over her painting.
“Oh– ¡Guau! ¡Qué bonito! Jaiden! What the fuck!” Roier crows with a laugh of disbelief, eyes dancing between the painting and the landscape she’d been mirroring, “This is so good!”

Father? So these boys are sons of the king. Twins, if Phil has to wager a guess. If these are princes, though, it begs the question—why are they here, with only a few stray guards?
Phil doesn’t say anything, just cocks his head in a questioning manner.
The boy continues. “He, uh, thought it would be best to use an old tradition, where a surrendering nation would hand over some of their own as a sort of… collateral, you could say. To ensure there wouldn’t be a rebellion.”
Phil blinks. Has he heard that right? “Your father sent you two—his sons—to me, as what? Hostages? To prove he won’t foolishly try and attack my empire?”
Or, Phil is the king of a powerful nation. Somehow, his enemies have decided throwing children at him will get him to leave them alone. They’re wrong—he just gets a bigger family.
