Summary
Special Agent Will Graham is called in to assist Special Agent Lee Harker on a case in Eugene, Oregon. They’re calling the murder suspect a “Longlegs Copycat,” after the notorious murders of Dale Ferdinand Kobble (Longlegs) and Lee’s mother, Ruth Harker—but it’s not the case that’s troubling Will, or Lee. Something about it is hitting too close to home. Something is buried inside Will, and Lee can’t help but dig.

For approximately ten minutes, Will entertains the possibility that the whole evening before had been a very vivid dream, not because he is particularly doubtful of his memory, but because Doctor Lecter - Hannibal - doesn’t leave any evidence of his visit, no matter where Will’s keen eyes look for it.

As he nurses Will and himself back to health, Hannibal works to help Will come to terms with the new layer of intimacy in their relationship and to negotiate Will's compulsion to deliver justice without putting them at risk for discovery.
He can't recall the fall, or which of them broke the choppy waves first, but he can remember Will's hand on the back of his neck, hot as a brand in contrast with the icy water that swallows them. The ocean has a hungry, cold vastness that unsettles even Hannibal, washing them against the rocks like flotsam – and with as little regard for their autonomy.
