“Are you back, then?” Crowley says, hopeful. Aziraphale looks at him with rather sad eyes, but they’re still oh so formidable and strong.
“No,” Aziraphale says, and Crowley’s heart sinks. He can feel his face meld more into a frown, but he still listens intently. “No, I’m not. I just—I wanted to make sure you were alright. That you’re healing… and, well. I wanted to ask for forgiveness.”
“Forgiveness?” Crowley spits out, like it’s venom. He stands up straight, and Aziraphale’s hand falls from his jaw. Aziraphale is standing so close that Crowley is almost kissing him again, and lord, does he want to, still yet.
Aziraphale looks at him. Stares him down, although his throat bobs around a swallow.
“Forgiveness,” Aziraphale repeats, and he doesn’t step backwards. “Forgiveness, or absolution—just, I—I’m going back there, Crowley. I’m not—I just want you to forgive me,” Aziraphale says, and he puts his hand on Crowley’s pyjama-clothed cock.
Forgiveness is sought, absolution is pursued, and maybe it can all be okay.
