Post Canon - Gale invites Astarion to Waterdeep after the defeat of the brain.
Healing isn't a linear process and Astarion's not as well adjusted as he'd thought.
One shot character exploration of Astarion's first experience with actual safety. Additional one off incident studies may follow.Edit: I am a fool and a liar. Y'all are incredible to write for and this will now proceed as a mini fic.

Summary
The woman tilted her head. "Do you know what we just did to you?"
Astarion's eyes darted between them, perplexed by the question. What they did to him…?
That's when he noticed the Selûnite pendant around her neck. She was a cleric… had she healed him? He tried to piece together a scenario that made any sort of sense, but the details barely added up. Had these people found him? If so, why did they drag him across the city? How did they do such a thing? Why wasn't he in Harborside getting treatment? He wasn't sure exactly how severe his injuries had been, but he knew for a fact that a simple healing potion would not have done a thing to mend him back together.
"Are you… healers?" he asked.
The bearded man's mouth dropped open. "Healers—? What? No," he began to reach for him, but thought better of it and awkwardly closed his fist instead. "Astarion, it's me. Gale."
Astarion didn't recognize his name or his face in the slightest, but the way he was looking at him gave him pause.
"I… I don't…" Astarion shook his head slightly, racking his brain. "I'm sorry… Have we met before?"

…I find the world oddly quiet without the bickering of Lae’zel and Shadowheart. I often think I see Karlach or Wyll dancing at the edges of my vision but my eyes never find them. Every time someone asks a question I find myself pausing, expecting Gale to answer. And I still look up, searching for your eyes…Bookmarked by Brrrok

Summary
“I’ve made my choice,” he says, perhaps a bit snappishly. “My affliction is an outcome of my own thoughtlessness – for the second time in my life, I might add. I may have been given a second chance, but the Gods will argue that I am not deserving of a third.”
“If there is one thing I have learnt about faith,” Lae’zel says. “It is that we mustn’t allow fervent belief to cloud our judgement.”
“I do not possess fervent belief.”
Lae’zel lifts up her chin. “A dangerous combination. You don’t believe in the Gods, neither do you believe in yourself.”
With the clock ticking down on the last month of his life, one Gale Dekarios sets out to bring some holiday cheer to the rest of his friends for the last time.
