    Ilya said briefly, “Orgy.”

    “Uh,” said Shane, “no, that’s not—”

    Ilya grinned at him. It was a mean-edged grin but something about it seemed to suggest that he was joking with Shane, rather than about him. “Oh, he speaks.”

    “We’re not here for an orgy,” Shane said to Jaw Man. “We’re missionaries with the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.”

    Of course, years later, Shane transfers to Ottawa. And lo and behold, the player who had number 81 retired, so when Shane has to choose a number?
    81 is available.

    One day I will reread this fic complete or not and I will write a love letter with all my beloved lines and appreciation I have for this fic, but rn it hurts too much. The characters feel so real, their struggles cut me so deep and I felt so emotionally tied to them. I hope one day I will get a notification for chapter 30 maybe in a year or 10 I'll be here in either case. I will pop a quick I love mateo so so much it hurts because I do.

    I first saw this fic when chapter 1 was released and because it was a wip I put it in save for later. I am not active on social media but when I heard about what is happening to fics in this fandom I decided my wip rule is so fucking ridiculous and showing support is more important. I read this knowing full well this might be the last chapter but I loved every second of it. I don't know if you'll ever read this but I truly loved this work.
