Summary
During elementary school, Shauna was adorably shy and disinterested in everything but Jackie, her mom, Deb, and scribbling in her little books. As a kid, Jackie liked occupying Shauna's attention ( and maybe she still did).
By the time Shauna had her braces removed, people started paying more attention to her, and she hated it. Jackie literally found her first.
People began to eye her best friend as they passed in the halls. She hated seeing their eyes linger on Shauna as she passed in her soccer uniform ( the uniform she is only wearing because Jackie convinced her to try out)!
Shauna has a lot of people interested in her romantically (much to Jackie's dismay), but luckily for her, her best friend is oblivious to most of the attention. It does help that Jackie's presence is an effective tool in warding off any person encroaching on her territory.
