Summary
Regulus knows James Potter. The kind of music he likes, what he does in his free time, every single detail he can absorb.
James does not know him.
Sirius has made sure of that, keeping his mentally unwell brother far away from the object of his obsession. Funnily enough, it's James who comes to Regulus. Well-meaning, curious with no idea what he's getting into.
The lines between love and obsession are blurry and hard to read.
“No, we’re friends now, remember? I know it hasn’t been long, but I think I’m learning you, aren’t I?”
Are you?
James had Regulus, but he didn’t know him. Regulus knew James but didn’t have him.
“Maybe you could,” was all Regulus could say in response. That was a truth. James could probably learn Regulus inside and out. Regulus would offer that if it didn’t mean breaking down the fixation—the rotting truth behind their growing relationship.

“So… solving murder cases is the only thing you excel at?”
"There are other things I excel at,” Regulus says, his voice softer now.
James' throat bobs with a harsh swallow. “And that is…?”
Regulus nods his head towards the door. “You can shut the door and find out.”

When a star dies, it doesn’t go quietly, softly, unnoticed. When a star dies, it blasts into a supernova and outshines entire galaxies, saying one final goodbye for the entire universe to hear. It announces its departure.
Regulus Black doesn’t want to die. He just wants to be seen.
Or: Regulus is an MI6 agent struggling with the weight of his past and the burdens of his future and James tags along like a lost, lovesick puppy.

Summary
In 1981, the war ended with Voldemort’s death. Thirteen years later, Regulus still lives in the shadow of his parents’ contribution to the cause. No matter how hard he works or how much he accomplishes, he can’t escape the weight of his family name.
With the biggest project of his career now in front of him, Regulus leaves London to pose as a Healer on the Romanian Dragon Sanctuary. The only hiccup is a variable he never could’ve accounted for: James Potter, whose presence disrupts Regulus’ plans and forces him to reconsider everything he thought he knew.

Summary
Regulus has always known he's destined to drown. He feels it deep in his chest, past his rib cage, nestled somewhere behind his organs. He feels it in his arm when his mother squeezes it a little harder than a mother should. He felt it, the water rising in his throat, when his brother slipped out the window and into the night. He often wonders if it'd be easier to just let himself sink.
He often wonders if he has a choice.
Regulus gets sent back to school with a mission from the Dark Lord himself— find the “beast in the chamber” and claim its fangs without killing it. But when a certain curly-haired bespectacled boy asks for a rather large favor, everything suddenly gets a lot more complicated.

Summary
One night Sirius and Remus were caught kissing by Regulus. The next morning it was all over the school. James, unable to accept the betrayal of Sirius' own brother forcibly outing his best friend, seeks revenge by planning to do the same to Regulus.
Only it doesn't go as planned (read: James unbiddenly falls in love).
Only things aren't quite as they seem. In the end the one who bears the brunt of it all, undeservingly as it turns out, is Regulus.
