Summary
The seventeenth victim was supposed to stay dead.
When Batman arrives at Gotham General’s morgue to investigate a string of ritualistic murders, he finds a Jane Doe on an autopsy table with strange markings carved into her body and no traceable identity in any database.
Then she takes a breath.
What follows drags Batman into something far older and more dangerous than a serial killer haunting Gotham’s streets. The woman who should be dead escapes him before sunrise, leaving behind impossible evidence, unanswered questions, and a city that seems to remember her in places it shouldn’t.
As the bodies pile up, Batman finds himself pursuing the only witness who may know the truth.
Unfortunately for him, she is infuriatingly difficult to catch.
