    Summary

Phainon groaned and dragged a hand down his face, his expression screwed up in irritation—not at Mydei, never at him, but at everything else. The missions, the reports, the meetings, the non-stop noise that had kept them apart for two whole weeks.

Usually, he didn’t really mind since it was normal for them being apart for this long, but Phainon was almost feeling sad for not having seen Mydei in so long.

He threw himself face-first onto the bed with a heavy thump, letting out a muffled string of complaints into the sheets that smelled too much like what he was trying not to think about.

"Mydei, Mydei, Mydei," he muttered into the mattress, his voice slurred with longing. “I swear, if I don’t see your face soon I’m going to combust.”

Phainon returns to his room feeling frustrated and overwhelmed with desire, missing Mydei after days apart due to their busy schedules.

Even if their relationship is complicated to say the least, who could ever blame him for yearning and longing for Mydei?

    Summary

Mydei doesn't think much of it when his class is one minute late.

But as the clock on his wall ticks away, signalling that now—after losing himself in deep thought over how to handle today's lesson—it's currently ten past the hour, he finally starts getting suspicious. It's normal for classes to overrun on occasion, gods, even he's even done it before. However, it's an entirely different thing when it's this much time that's gone by without any prior notice. Mydei pushes his glasses back up onto the bridge of his nose, as they've gradually slid down while he was staring at the worksheets on his desk.

He sighs, glancing at the clock once again. Two more minutes, he promises himself, and then he'll go figure out where the hells his class has disappeared off to.

    Summary

He understands. Of course he does. If he were to write out the deepest desire of his heart onto pages like a poet deeply in love, it would become a melody sung across the four corners of the land. But it's condemned to remain only a dream, a heart locked in chains like a box that cannot be opened.

"Qifrey, say something," says Olruggio, faintly. Even now, even in this desperate state, he's as gentle, as thoughtful as ever. Even while wanting him to answer, his words offer Qifrey the space to shatter his heart, the gap to slip away into, to flee.

"You understand me, don't you?" he asks once more.

The one time Qifrey attempts to leave.

    Summary

Olruggio wrapped his arms around Qifrey’s waist and pulled him close. He rested his chin on Qifrey’s shoulder, warm and real and solid. Qifrey returned the gesture, his eye sliding shut. He let out a breath. They remained that way for a long while, leaning against each other. This could not ease Qifrey—he’d managed a delicate balance that allowed him to indulge in these small ways while retaining his ever-present fear—but Olruggio’s weight became heavier and heavier as he relaxed into it.

Qifrey could do these things for Olruggio; he could take care of him, though it would never make up for everything that he had done.

Qifrey and Olruggio build themselves a home. The days pass in the closest thing to domestic bliss that Qifrey can manage. It cannot last.
