Whatever carefully blank expression Lestat is trying on disappears like a slap. “Armand made a fledgling. Why would he do that?” Lestat asks.
“Oh, you know,” Louis says, watching the three dots of a new text pop up. “He knew Daniel was… important to me.”
He means to say it with rueful annoyance, as if to say, “so he ruined him.” But as Daniel’s text comes in—the most important question I should have asked you in that fucking interview: where do you buy coke in Dubai?—Louis’s voice trails off, his words maybe lacking some of the bite.

Lestat misunderstands what Daniel is to Louis and tries to be a champ about it. Meanwhile Louis rediscovers his drug of choice—Lestat.

“You never tell me much of your memories before,” Louis says, and fixes his eyes on the statue at the centre of the room. Two figures, entwined in a struggle, stretch their arms up to the golden ceiling.
“I do not have many happy memories of then.” Lestat wanders from his side and towards the statue. “But this one connects us, does it not?” He looks back over his shoulder, tossing his hair like a great lion’s mane. Louis smiles.
“Yeah,” he says. “It does. I like to think of it. It’s a little funny, almost. That we were both boys at a certain time.”
“Yes,” Lestat says. “It is. Different centuries, an ocean away from each other. And here we are!”

Louis watches out of the corner of his eye, and the meat’s throat clicks as he swallows and then moans, eyes rolling back into his head as Lestat cups his bulge with one gaudy Joan Crawford witch hand. Louis’ mouth fills with what he isn’t saying and isn’t allowing himself. Lestat is just sitting so pretty and weird, mascara running a little bit and all of his straight white Francophone teeth biting the inside of his mouth so his cheekbones pop. Expansive decadence and deepening scar at the edge of his mouth, Louis wants him. Is almost dripping with it.

Louis looks up from his newspaper at that, his beautiful green eyes passing over his form as though just noticing he was dressed in something other than his smoking robe. Once, Louis could scarcely keep his hands off a Lestat dressed in proper 20th century attire for a night on the town, and he remembers that many a plan had been postponed or outright forgotten for more carnal, intimate endeavors.
“So if my considerable considerables continue to be squandered…”
Lestat pauses a moment, expectant, but after a beat, Louis turns his remorseless gaze back to his research. Lestat feels the scowl tighten his face before he’s fully aware of it himself, takes up his jacket again, and crosses their loveless bedroom to meet his loveless lover down below.
“Wait.”
or: Lestat and Louis find common ground in episode 1x05 after all.
