Summary
The number one rule of being a spy is this - don’t get caught. It seemed easy enough to follow, but leave it to Deacon to find a way to screw that up.
---
Deacon is missing and the last people who saw him are nowhere to be found. MacCready is worried; Deacon and he still have a score to settle, and Deacon promised him next time they talked they'd have a serious conversation about things between them. Deacon better not be trying to weasel his way out of this...
Meanwhile, Deacon has been captured by the Institute. Billed as the Railroad's number one spy and a well of information, the Institute is very interested in obtaining what he knows, whether he's willing to give it up himself or not. His abilities as a liar are put to the ultimate test as the Institute seeks to break the Commonwealth's most mysterious man.

Summary
MacCready had some experience with starving, but never for this long.
---
At his absolute lowest point, MacCready was broke, starving, and alone in the Commonwealth. Before Lucy, before the Gunners, but after Lamplight, former Mayor MacCready found himself working for scraps in Bunker Hill as a caravan guard. Unfortunately, when work dries up there's very little for him to fall back on to make caps enough to survive, save for his gun and one other talent he'd never ever want to use.

Summary
Preston Garvey was down on his luck. The militia he'd given his whole life to support had fallen at the hands of the Gunners, the settlers so many of his comrades had died to protect were reduced to a meer handful, and all he had left to defend was a tiny village called Sanctuary and the lives inside. It wasn't much, but he would be damned before he let anything bad happen to it.
Robert Joseph MacCready was down on his luck. The Gunners had finally pushed him over the edge - he'd never been a good person in his life, but he wouldn't allow himself to become a monster just for a few caps. Unfortunately, when you sign up with the Gunners, you're supposed to give them your whole life, and they don't take too kindly to being cheated.
MacCready and Preston were at a low point in their lives, and then along came Nora - a woman from before the war with an unusual skillset for her time and more determination than one person had any right to be. Preston can't trust MacCready, but he trusts Nora, and when she asked him to save the merc's life he couldn't refuse.

Unfortunately for him, before he could get back to the safety of his farmhouse in the Capital, MacCready found himself kidnapped by none other than the Sole Survivor himself, who's managed to take over a theme park full of raiders since finishing off the Commonwealth. Surrounded by raiders and stalked by one of the most powerful, ruthless psychopaths in the wasteland, MacCready has no choice but to go along with the new Overboss' desires.

Summary
Deacon has been captured by the Brotherhood of Steel. Nora is just finding out he's missing, is furious with Des and Carrington for not telling her, and goes on a search for him.
Macready isn't crazy about Deacon, but he's not going to let her search alone.
This is a mix of game canon and my own ramblings.

Benny knew his luck would run out eventually. Everyone's does, that's what makes it luck and not the standard, but- well, he was hoping he would have a bigger grace period than this. Summary
There was also a man strapped to the chair. A human, close cropped ginger hair, blue eyes, and features that would otherwise be nondescript, were it not for the black eye, or the assortment of bruises and cuts in various stages of healing. The man looked up at the synth and barked a laugh. D3-40 recognized the face immediately.
He had seen it for the first time that morning, when he’d looked in the mirror.
The man studied D3-40 with an amused grin. “Well, this is going to be interesting…”
