    Summary

Sue liked to think of herself as someone who wasn’t totally miserable, and found fun in a lot of activities — telling or hearing a good joke, eating a tub of ice cream, watching the first ice hockey game of the season. But joining Emily’s amateur production of As You Like It, due to open in six weeks at the local theatre, was nowhere on her list of fun pastimes.

(In which Sue discovers the joys of iambic pentameter, confronts long-repressed emotional issues, and tries to figure out how to pretend to be in love with your best friend for theatrical purposes without acknowledging that you're actually already in love with your best friend. Not necessarily in that order.)

Beca doesn’t know how the hell she got here. Actually, she does know — something to do with one too many whiskey sours — but she still doesn’t know how the hell she got here. Here, in this house, with nineteen other twenty- and thirty-somethings all making awkward introductions and trying to stay a semi-respectable level of drunk at eleven in the morning.

    Summary

“Oh, fine.” Natalie replied. “A little warm for fur, isn’t it?”

“It’s faux. Don’t get any ideas about red paint.”

“Hm. Okay.” Natalie nodded, then sucked in a breath. “So, you’re a lesbian, though?”

Lottie straightened and shut the fridge door, then turned back to Natalie. She had a bottle of water in her hand. “Don’t be reductive, Nat, I could be bisexual.”

    “…are you bisexual?”

Lottie looked at her like she was stupid. “No, I’m a lesbian.”

A year after moving in with Lottie, Natalie makes a discovery about her roommate that sets off a chain reaction of catastrophic proportions.

    Summary

Lena lets out a careful breath and says, “James and I have decided to end our— association.”

What a perfectly weird and roundabout way to describe the end of a romantic relationship, Kara thinks. “Oh?” she says, aptly demonstrating her own comparative lack of eloquence.

It earns her one of Lena’s crinkly smiles at least, affection clear on her best friend’s face. “Should I feel offended that you don’t seem all that surprised?” she flusters.

“No,” Kara says, “I am,” and she is, is the thing, she's actually stunned, but she’s something else, much more than that.

    She’s elated.

    “Bummer,” Kara says.

    -

In which Kara makes a tiny new enemy, Alex has an actual functioning gaydar, and Lena breaks up with James only to immediately start seeing someone else. And Kara is fine! Except for the part where she’s really, really not.
