Summary
Ilya Rozanov has been drafted by Boston, the number one pick overall, but his father doesn't want him moving to America and so takes steps to block his visa. He's going to have to go back to Russia and stay there forever and that, thinks Shane Hollander, is wrong.
It's so wrong that Shane can't stop himself from doing something about it. Even though that something is the most reckless, the only reckless thing he's ever done in his life. He marries Rozanov in secret, to keep him out of Russia and put him on a path to Canadian citizenship.
Shane's got a five-year plan to get him there and when you have a plan nothing can go wrong. Right? Right. When you have a solid plan and a marriage that's on paper only there's no risk of feelings getting involved. Not on Rozanov's part and certainly not on Shane's.
Right???

“Don’t move. You’re being detained”, a voice from behind echoed out as he felt the cold metal of the cuffs cinch around his wrists. Fucking fantastic. Ilya complied, because what was the other option?
He felt a rush as he was hauled up from the ground and ushered outside. He couldn’t see the officer, but the strong grip on his arm was extra noticeable as he was guided to the curb.
It wasn’t until he sat down on the curb that he saw the officer properly. It was a man, and he was young. As Ilya looked him over, he quickly realized that this was perhaps the most attractive man he’d ever seen in his life. He had on his black pants, tactical belt, and black police polo covered by a thick vest. A silver badge shone on his chest. Ilya barely caught his nametag, 'Hollander'."
Or: A firefighter/police AU where Shane Hollander is 23 and just ended his rookie trial as a cop. Ilya Rozanov is a 29-year-old firefighter. Both have a complicated history with hockey. The two butt heads immediately after Shane tries to arrest him, but Ilya can't seem to shake a feeling he has about his arresting officer.
