“I see,” the doctor Roswaal called —after Emilia decided he desperately needed a medic now and couldn’t wait until they left for the Capital— nods in slow, stiff movements. “And how many hours a day do you find yourself sleeping?”
“Like eight hours a day,” Subaru pauses. “Okay no—actually six. Sorry, it’s a force of habit.”
“Sleeping?” he arches a brow at him.
“No— lying about how many hours I— ugh, never mind.” Honestly— he had expected this new world to be different from Japan. It had knights, magic and demi-humans after all! But people not sleeping and relating that state with a terminal illness called Sleeping Beauty Syndrome still took him by surprise.
Or: Magic and demi-humans are not the only things that separates Lugunica from Japan. In a world in which no one but Subaru sleeps, everyone is sure he has a terminal illness.
