The parchment is expensive. Tav runs her fingertips over the wax seal and hesitates; she knows what this is. She is not surprised that it is happening, she is, however, surprised at being included in some way. Perhaps, she allows herself, she had hoped it wouldn't be so soon. (She has already put to bed the part of herself that had hoped it would not happen at all.) Gale had, after all, been very clear - and devastatingly gentle - in his explanation.

Distantly, he hears Shadowheart laugh in response, while his ears ring. Gale, a person who famously loves thinking, is trying very hard not to let anything cross his mind at all. Even without thought, the way his heart seizes lets him know what he’s feeling, and nothing good can come from offering himself up to assist.

The last thing Violet wants after calling off her wedding is to hop into another relationship. The first thing she wants is to get laid. Gale should know better than to suggest that he could help, seeing as he is horribly, hopelessly in love with his friend.
He should know better. He does know better. Unfortunately, sometimes knowledge isn’t enough.
