Ilya heard the loud crash before anything else. His ears were ringing, the sounds drowned out by the adrenaline pumping through his ears. No. No. Please no.
He saw Shane lying on the ice, his helmet cracked and his body unmoving. Ilya wanted to scream, cry, and throw up, but he begged for his face to look as neutral as possible. He couldn’t give away the sheer panic he felt building in his throat. The paramedics put a neck brace on Shane and took off his helmet, letting Ilya get an unobstructed look at his face. There was a smear of blood on his temple that matted his hair combined with sweat. His freckles were dark against his red cheeks.
Please. Not now. Not yet, I still have so much to say to him.
Or: After Shane loses his memory after a brutal injury on the ice, Ilya wonders if they can rebuild everything they've lost in the last ten years.

When Ilya is marked as missing from the Centaurs’ plane crash, nobody knows why Shane’s game goes to shit. Benched by his coach, Shane goes to the place Ilya was last seen: the Blue Ridge Mountains. A story about finding yourself when you don’t know who you are, and about falling in love with the same person twice.
